Whilst this book is helpful to those people who have not translated their text or whose books do not contain a translation, it is no substitute for study. It contains an indepth translation of the poem but very little else. Although there is a section on character and themes these are extremely basic and offer no new or challenging ideas. The fact that the text was published so long ago also means that it has not been designed with todays exam curriculum in mind. There is therefore very little critical debate or independant opinion which it is necessary to know in order to get the top grades. The format of the book also makes it feel overly long with sections ending at odd places in the page. This may seem trivial but it gives you the sense that the Miller's Tale may go on forever! Good to get a basic idea at the start of study but not really enough detail for exam revision.
