I've used plenty of different types of home fitness equipment over the last 30 years, but have never bought a rowing machine before, largely due to the general opinion that nothing less than a Concept 2 is any good. Unable to stretch to a Concept 2 I've ignored the benefits that a workout on a rowing machine can give and concentrated on other equipment. This is a shame because having finally decided to risk a 'budget' rower I can see what I have been missing. This had the best reviews of all the budget rowers and it is certainly worth the money. It might not give you the genuine rowing experience of a Concept 2 or a Waterrower, but it does give an excellent workout and is a good addition to any home gym.
It is easy to assemble and seems well built and sturdy. It has a good, smooth action, which is something that many rowers seem to lose points for. The seat moves well and there is no hint of any jerk or catch when you first pull. It's a pleasure to use.
The only negative point that I could see is that the lowest setting is still quite hard work. My (skinny) 16 year old son and my wife both found it quite hard work and it might put a beginner off. For anyone used to exercise, though, it's fine and leaves plenty of scope for improvement. The top setting is very tough indeed, once you get past the first minute or so.
A great rower at a bargain price. I bought it direct from Sweatband, one of Amazon's partner sellers, as it was out of stock with Amazon at the time and the service was excellent.
