Cycling provides the home exerciser with an easy to use, minimal co-ordination activity that is highly efficient in the pursuit of increased fitness and decreased body fat. Cardiovascular exercise is the number 1 way to improve your general health, burn body fat and increase your fitness levels. Assessing your cardiovascular goals is the first step and understanding a little about intensity levels will ensure that the time invested in your exercise sessions returns the greatest benefits, rather than a hit and miss approach.
    Cardio for good health:
This form of exercise is for those wishing to improve quality of life and general well being and is the one for you if you are not out to break any land speed records. Gentle ‘good health’ cardio training will increase your fitness level to a degree, helping you get through day-to-day tasks more easily and with more energy.
    Cardio for weight loss:
To see a significant reduction in body fat, your sessions must be a little more intense (between 60 and 70% of your estimated maximum heart rate) than that required for a good health approach. These sessions can also be performed on most days of the week for up to 30 minutes and should ideally be supplemented with some form of strength training.

i bought this about 3 weeks ago, based on other reviews, the price + the fact it's the number 1 selling product in exercise bikes!

a lot of people on here have said it takes around to hours to put it together?! well i'm 22 and certainly no brainbox, but from taking all of the pieces out of the box and carrying them upstairs..it took me just under 1 hour to put it together (with no help)!, the only bit i did struggle with was the tension cable..it says on the instructions 'pull firmly' it should say 'give a good tug).

i found the instructions pretty easy and clear to follow!

the bike is very sturdy..its quieter than the bikes at the gym, my only problem after giving it a go, was that my bum was sore for 2 days after!! so i have now resolved that issue with a cushion (which other people on here have mentioned)

so all in all, if you dont want to break your bank balance (even if you did want to, there is no reason to) get this bike..its delivery service is also quicker than the estimated dates..another bonus :D

I found the Amazon reviews very helpful when purchasing this exercise bike. So I hope this review will be a valuable addition and I will update it if required. Firstly, I have only owned this YORK C101 CYCLE a few hours so we are still learning about each other. I bought it from Amazon (with the free delivery) and that service is 5 star - I think I ordered it yesterday and it arrived late morning today. The packaging seemed good and the instructions were definitely easy to follow. However, I struggled on the first bolts (which attach the rear foot) as they were a little short and I had to go and compress the spring washers elsewhere before I could get the nuts to bite the threads. However, all the other fastenings were fine. I followed the steps in the instruction book and the whole thing was complete within 30 minutes. Now we get to the reason why I give 3 stars and not 5. I note that another reviewer complains that this equipment is noisy. Well, after construction I began to pedal (that's what I bought it for). Graunch, graunch, graunch - the noise was shocking and I understand why that other reviewer was so unhappy. It was dreadfully noisy. I tipped the cycle upside-down and had a look at the workings - all was fine except that the mechanism (RHS) was rubbing against the bodywork and curly, swarfy type pieces of plastic were already apparent. Closer inspection of the bodywork (down the front) (assembled in China) showed that it doesn't go together particularly well but I tried loosening and tightening some of the screws to see if it would pop together as it was designed. It didn't so I bimbled off to my garage and cut a piece of wood (4 or 5 inches - I dunno, I did it by eye) and wedged it, left to right about midway at the bottom, so it pushes the two sides of the bodywork apart slightly.Read more ›

Assembly from flat pack quite straightforward. Drawings a little small, but all items clearly numbered and all tools provided. Smaller items (nuts/bolts) and tools on plastic wrapped sheet, clearly numbered. Just take time to get all items in order and you will have no problems.
Bike feels rebust and well made. Heavy enough to ensure it does not move during exercising, but not too heavy to move.
Seat can be adjusted extensivley. I am 6' with 34" inside leg and I cannot use the highest setting. Handle bars also adjustable. Peddles feel comfortable and strapes appear to adjust to fit any shoe size.
Electronics a little limited, no programmes or pulse meter, but at this price a little too much to ask for, probably.
Resistance is fine for me, 8 settings do cover too easy to hard (well for me anyway). I am trying to get fit so this is fine.
Not sure how this will take 3 to 4 sessions are week (at least that is my intension), but so far so good.

This is easy to put together with all the bits, tools are supplied along with detailed instructions (although you look at them last!). It usually takes me some time to build 'out of a box' but this was child's play. The cycle is used by my wife and me. We are different heights and weights but that is no problem for this cycle as the adjustments (saddle height, pedal friction) are changed within seconds. Monitoring speed, distance time and calories used as well as scan mode is changed on the fly. It is light enough to be lifted away when not used but remains solid and stable when in use. Good value for money too!

I had a good look at all the reviews on the york C101 cycle and i have not been disappointed,It was well packaged and it is just as described by most reviewers, very quiet in use, well made and i found it easy to assemble. you even get the tools to do this. The range of saddle height adjustment is great the family range from 6'2 to 4'10 no problems. I found the 1-8 tension settings more than adequate.

When I decided to lose weight I started searching for a treadmill. The best treadmill I found was the "Reebok I-Run" model, which is reasonably priced and gets great reviews. It was available at argos for only £250 but I had to wait 35 days for delivery. I thought I will start of with this exercise bike and not lose my motivation until then.

I was expecting this exercise bike to be a side equipment that I would use from time to time once I got my treadmill.

I'm so glad I bought this item. I absolutely love cycling. If I had started with a treadmill I wouldn't be able to run more than 10 minutes. But with this bike the first day I did 60min (2x30). The next day I increased to 90min (3x30) and I'm still continuing that way every day!

Besides there is the noise factor that was bothering me about the treadmill idea. I don't want to bother my upstairs neighbours with the treadmill noise. This bike nearly creates no noise at all although I'm using it on laminated floor. I use it early in the morning, at midnight, even after midnight all the time.

I've put this in the living room in front of the TV. I like wearing my sennheiser wireless headphones while I'm on the bike, especially when it's late. This way I can concentrate more on the TV. Without the TV I would be watching clocks all the time. I pick programs that I especially like. It makes the exercise much easier.

The image in my mind about doing exercises has been always someting tough and tiring. I tried the gym but didn't succeed. I went there only 3 times in 6 months.

Now I'm burning 900 calories every day while watching TV. You will burn 300 calories in a 30 minute sessions. At first it might take around 35 minutes depending on your speed and difficult level.
