5.0 out of 5 stars Clever little triggers and at a bargain price 7 Dec 2011
Verified Purchase
Having spent many hours trawling the web to choose a set of triggers for my studio lighting set up; especially in which I can combine flash with other lights, I spotted these. I have read a few reviews about the previous version which were favourable but this version is truly amazing. Firstly they use AAA batteries and not some arcane specialist battery that will be impossible to source from anywhere other than an electronics store. I particularly like that any one of the units can act as a receiver or a transmitter and that I can put a flash unit on top of the transmitter mounted on the camera and this works as if it were mounted on the camera hotshoe. I can also trigger the camera from one of the flash triggers if the cable from the transmitter is plugged into the camera remote socket...how clever is that? This means that the whole set up is incredibly versatile. OK it also means a few manual adjustments but with practice this gets easier. Frankly these clever little gadgets are better than many costing three or four times more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the price 1 Dec 2011

I researched a fair bit before purchasing this flash trigger and I wasn't disappointed. It works as both a flash trigger with the transceiver on the Camera automatically acting as a transmitter and the transceiver connected to the flash as a receiver. And as a camera shutter release with a hand held transmitter being the transmitter and the camera mounted transceiver as the receiver. This is automatic, you don't need to play with controls to get this to work. You can also do both at the same time i.e. Trigger the camera from the unit on the flash which triggers the camera which in turn triggers the flash, neat!

The side effect of this is you can't trigger a flash from a hand held unit (the system thinks you are trying to trigger the camera not the flash). This isn't a problem in normal use but can be confusing when you get the triggers out of the box for the first time and want to test. You have to put the transceiver onto a camera for it to work.

The manual is typical of this type of product and lacks some clarity but there is lots of info on the web (try the stobist flikr discussion group). I got excellent range, in excess of 30 meters outdoors and between rooms indoors. It takes AAA batteries (not supplied) much better than the expensive alternatives.

Overall I'm happy with these triggers and will be buying more for the rest of my flashes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does The Job 2 Mar 2012

I bought the Neewer/Yongnuo triggers to go with a Canon 550D and Nissin Di866 Mark II and I was a bit worried the Nissin wouldn't recognise them but it works perfectly. Obviously at this price range you lose ETTL and everything has to be set manually (power, zoom) but this is easier than you think and not only teaches you a bit more about using flash but is quite enjoyable tweaking settings to vary results. The included cable attachment allows the shutter on the 550D to be triggered wirelessly without having to switch the camera into remote mode, something you can't do with the RC-6 remote.

The instruction manual is brief but awkward and theres a fiddly bit requiring you to remove a protection seal from the channel switches located inside the battery compartment, but the units themselves are straight forward to set up and use. Ater setting the Nissin Di866 to Manual mode (not wireless) and switching 'SD Slave' off, its click and go.

I'm very happy with these and they're well worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reliable, works 100% of the time for me 11 Jan 2014

In my experience, these have been 100% reliable in firing used in one room/studio - haven't tried them at longer distances. Easy to set up, I just connected them to camera and flash and bang they worked. I have only used them as a flash trigger and not as a remote shutter release, so can't comment on that. Recommended.
