Product Description

Written by and starring the cast of Horrible Histories, Yonderland is a wonderful and weird comedy for adults and kids alike. Yonderland follows 33-year old mum Debbie Maddox (Martha Howe-Douglas) who is bored of being an unappreciated stay-at-home mum. Little does she know this is all about to change when she unexpectedly finds herself on a quest through Yonderland, with only an Elf by her side. This extraordinary world is only accessible via her kitchen cupboard that is inhabited by a collection of eccentric (and usually idiotic) characters, some of whom happen to be puppets. Through Debbie’s eyes, we’re exported to a strange but spectacular getaway packed full of mayhem, Monty Python-esque silliness and humour that will have mum and dad in stiches too, guaranteeing giggles for the whole family.

4.0 out of 5 stars Labyrinth with Laffs 24 Nov 2013
I'm currently watching this series on Sky and what a wonderful confection it is. The much vaunted new project from the Horrible Histories Team does not disappoint. In fact, so horrified were the cast at the thought of not working together after the demise of 'Histories,' Yonderland was born.

So what is it then? Well, Fraggles on acid meets Labyrinth in Narnia could be one description. Just swap the grandiose lion for a wise cracking Elf, whose biggest excitement comes from watching trees yawn - and the wardrobe for a suburban kitchen, and you may begin to catch its drift.

A Brummie Mum (Martha Howe-Douglas) finds herself transported from boredom to bonkers land, whenever she opens her pantry. Once there, it is revealed via a mad mix of man and muppet, that she is "the chosen one." Chosen seemingly to stop squabbles, prevent fights and help those she encounters rediscover their Mojo. Once Literally, in the case of a washed up magician and his errant puppet.

Amazing the Yonderlandians with her no-nonsense approach to problem solving, basic common sense endows our Mum with the powers of a super-hero. Thusly and hereafter attracting the attention of evil mastermind Negartus, played with mildly malevolent glee by former Stupid Death-meister Simon Farnaby. Who, when not tinkering with the flame height on his newly installed furnace of death, attempts to thwart The Chosen One with the aid of his three hillariously inept minions and a scary looking helmet.

Clearly a cast at the top of their game, the principal players are mercifully free of the ego and creative strife which has riven apart many comedic collectives in the past. They write together, laugh with and at, eachother and genuinely enjoy the pleasure of larking about with an audience.

What a cracker of a show Yonderland is with its hilarious antics, charm, wit and an endless supply of innuendo jokes which keep us laughing for weeks on end. XD

I end up laughing randomly in public places thinking non-stop about all the jokes and cracking suprises, that this show has produced. XD

I love the fact that all the Horrible Histories cast star in this wonderful show, which in fact make it even more magical than it is. :)

This DVD is a must buy and is suitable for all the family, which you will still laugh at and enjoy in many years to come. X

5.0 out of 5 stars Our whole family loves this show! 5 Jan 2014

Our daughters (9 and 5 years old) loved Horrible Histories, and so did we. Expectations were high for Yonderland, and it does not disappoint! It gets the whole family laughing, which is no mean feat. I was talking to friends the other day and said it was like watching Horrible Histories mixed with The Muppets and a dash of, maybe, Monty Python's goofy little nephews. Love this cast and love the show!

This is a story about a portal in a pantry. Not any old pantry, but Dhebbaee of Madox's pantry in her home in Selly Oak, Birmingham, who happens to be `the chosen one'. Apparently, she is the Dhebbaee they are looking for.

I can only add my observations to the excellent review provided by Ms. Rebekah Williams.

Where do I start? This series is a total joy. After Nordic Noir, Hinterland and Quirke I needed something like this. There are loads of references to fantasy and SF movies and there is so much to enjoy. My particular favourites? Negartus, a cross between Darth Vader and David Warner's `Evil' from Terry Gilliam's Time Bandits. His Gremlin henchdemons. The wise-cracking elf-hobbit. Nick the stick, with hints of Marvin the paranoid android from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Mr Havelock and Miss Fanshaw, reminiscent of Vincent and Pansy from Time Bandits.

There is to be a second series. More quests and more hilarity. Bring it on!

Thanks Amazon for delivering this to me so quickly. It is hilarious and really clever humour. It has kept me amused for hours! You don't watch is once you watch it again and again when you're introducing it to your friends as you can't tire of it. I was really disappointed when I watched the whole series the first time round and it ended. I wanted a 2nd series to move on to! It's fantastic hangover/duvet day viewing plus as I said something to watch with your mates (as long as they share this type of sense of humour)! Try it and watch it more than once :-) Bring out a 2nd series please if anyone is listening!

4.0 out of 5 stars Yonderland..... a gem of a family series. 1 Aug 2014

Yonderland was a surprise discovery for me, as I don't have children it was something I glossed over even as a fan of horrible histories but once I watched the first episode I was hooked, it has plenty of humour for both child and adult alike and I think fans of the Monty Python movies would certainly find this show entertaining. I hope it comes back for a second series. Delightfully there is plenty of repeat viewing value as there is always something going on in the background that may have been missed the first time around.

I was very skeptical about this series at first. The reviews made it sound more like a children's programme with the odd laugh for adults, than a series I'd be interested in following. However, as someone who loved Labyrinth as a kid, I decided to order the DVD and check it out. I'm glad I did, because I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! It's perfectly suitable for children, but I think most adults would get a lot more out of it. I can't wait for season 2, which Sky has confirmed will begin filming this autumn and air in 2015.
