Product Description

The Rucksack cover is a simple and unique product, performing several functions at the same time. The rucksack cover fits simply over an existing rucksack and fastens around its waist. It is available in Day-Glo Yellow/Orange for daylight visibility with reflective 2cm width tape running top to bottom on both sides for night time visibility. It also features an elasticated edge which grips the rucksack stopping it from flapping around.

I started commuting by bike in London in June 2008, and it was still so light that I didn't need a rear light or a high visibility jacket after work to cycle back home. But now it's suddenly much darker, especially when it's cloudy or raining, so I started wearing a yellow high-viz jacket with a lot of reflective tapes around my back and arms - just like the one that the police officers are wearing on their motorcycle! I thought it'd improve my visibility a lot.

However, when I cycled I was carrying a dark coloured rucksack, and I realised about 70% of my yellow high-viz colour was covered by my rucksack. I've done some research when I was cycling behind other cyclists who were in the same situation, and the result was the high-viz yellow/orange colour + reflective tapes were hardly noticeable from behind in a distance if the cyclists were carrying a dark-coloured rucksack!

So I looked for a high visibility rucksack cover, and I chose this one. This particular item has two reflective tapes as well as a net pocket, so I put one of my rear flashing lights in it. Now I know the visibility has improved significantly, so I feel much securer behind my back. It has two rubber strings on the other side too, so it would stick to most rucksacks, I imagine. Only a small fault I can think of is that this cover is not waterproof, so your rucksack will probably get wet in the rain.

If you need to ride a bike after dark and carry a dark-coloured rucksack, I will definitely recommend this cover to you, especially if you cycle in heavy traffic like in London, and you can let others see you much sooner. Let's improve traffic safety and protect yourself. Good luck!

FYI: I can also recommend a waterproof Hi-Viz Bomber Jacket to improve your visibility!

I got this last year as often cycle to and from work . It is a great thing as everyone just bypasses me in a great loop- just what you want on the busy city roads. I wear a Hi-vis jacket as well- but you don't really need it with this. Easy to put on and off and the little pocket is great for bike keys or wallet even. Excellent buy and excellent service.

The product is certainly high-vis and fits well over a medium sized bag. The mesh pocket in the front also makes it easy to add a small light for extra visibility.

However, the build quality isn't great and a couple of days of opening and closing the poppers pulled the attachment away from the fabric - making the fastenings useless. If you very rarely remove the cover from you bag this is a good buy for the money, otherwise I would avoid it and go for a more substantial option.

This fits my Berghaus Freeflow 25 litre rucksack (this one on amazon is slightly different from mine, which is older). Much bigger than that would probably be too big for this to fit.

Probably OK for occasional use (which is OK for me), but the stitching looks a bit light if you regularly take it on and off the bag -- I'm talking about the joins between the different colours of material, not the poppers. I haven't used it yet except to try fitting it over my rucksack, so perhaps it would be fine even with daily use. Seeing that stitching stretch so easily doesn't give me any confidence in it, though. I plan to leave the poppers always done up since leaving them that way doesn't seem to make it any harder to stretch it over the bag.

While I've only had this for a short time I am happy with it. I chose to buy this instead of the more recognized brands and it's pretty much on par in my opinion. The 'brightness' of it is maybe slightly inferior to other brands but not enough to warrant paying twice the price. Very good purchase.

Pros: Cheap, has two reflective strips, has a strap to connect either side of it underneath the shoulder straps of my backpack
Cons: Really a bit too small for my backpack ( Im a student, thus have books), the mesh pocket doesnt have any closing device ( ie velcro) thus making it useless. Itd be nice if i could put a light here though!

Fits onto several of my back packs with ease. I've used daily for a couple of months and have no signs of wear yet. There are two belts to secure around the back of the backpack and a handy mesh pocket.

Good to know I've increased visibility for a few quid! I'd buy again even if I managed to break it somehow.

These covers are perfect for what they are. I was a bit apprehensive that they wouldn't fit my kid's school rucksacks but they do. They stand out brightly and although they aren't waterproof for the price they're highly recommended.
