Simply the best 5 Feb 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Absolutely the best, most sensible, down-to-earth, clear and amusing book on yoga possible. Even my quite-uninterested-in-anything-of-the-sort boyfriend picked it up and said 'I'll have to try that'. Possibly helped by the fact that the cover has a photo of an ordinary-looking guy in ordinary clothes holding a cup of coffee on it. It is subtitled 'Poses for the flexibly challenged', and has sections such as 'poses for couch potatoes that you can do while watching TV'. Purists who insist on sanskrit names for things and take it all terribly seriously would probably look down on it, but it's totally unpatronising and not at all 'dummed down', just treats the subject in a common-sense and fun way. When's the video coming out?

This book was reccomended by my yoga teacher & now that I have quallifyed as a teacher I also reccomend this book to my students, esp the ones who ask "What can I practice at home?"
The book has clear pictures of normal folk in simple...not complicated poses with gentle 15 min routines to try, it shows that yoga is not all about bing in the full "asana"...cumon! who can do them all anyhow? Afterall yoga is about being in the moment...and so is this book. A brilliant addition to any yogis bookshelf.

Finally Yoga for real people 25 Sep 2010
By bernie - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I hate those pretzel things that I think they use CGI to make. Worse is learning some ancient philosophy when all you want to do is yog.

This book is a great starting (and finishing) point. I am not sure I like to use chairs and ties. The next book should use beds. However, you work with what you have. This oversized book has plenty of straightforward pictures, next best thing to video. For people that are not specially orientated that is a description of what you are looking at.

My question is what is in the cup of the guy on the cover?

All kidding aside this can get addictive. So be prepared to cut out some time in your day.
