A yoga essential 3 Jan 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This is a fantastic book, which has provided me with motivation, guidance and inspiration between my weekly beginners yoga classes.

More advanced yoga practitioners would also find this book useful because, as well as providing well set out, easy to follow, clear and attractive instructions on most asanas (poses), the book also puts yoga in its wider context, with sections on philosophy and yoga text.

Within the book, the asanas are broken down into really logical sections: eg. standing poses, seated poses. Each asana has guidance on how to practice, with very clear photos, and guidance on how to get more out of a pose once it has been achieved.

I would say that this is an essential book for yoga practitioners at any level!

All time classic 18 Oct 2010
Format:Paperback
I have a lot of yoga books and this is one that I have found consistently useful for many years. When I was a trainee yoga teacher it helped me deepen my practise, when I was a yoga teacher it helped me clarify teaching points and gave me ideas on sequencing, and now I just practice yoga it's like an old friend I can call on every now and then. Obviously appropriate for Iyengar practitioners - but I would recommend it more widely: If you only want one Iyengar book in your library perhaps this should be it.

Never bettered 18 Oct 2010
Format:Paperback
This has everything that most practitioners would need: clear pictures and instructions for the asanas, with points to improve the pose; helpful programmes for a progressive self-practice; a simple remedial section; an accessible account of yoga philosophy. Like the tube map it has been often imitated and never bettered. It's ideal for a new student. Use the book in conjunction with Light on Yoga if you are a dedicated student/ teacher.
