Book Description

1 Feb 2001
With over 200 photographs and illustrations, 'Yoga Mind, Body & Spirit' sets forth the tenets of this gentle yet rigorous exercise as no other book has. Integrating the teachings of every tradition, internationally renowned yoga instructor Donna Farhi reveals how yoga enhances the connections between the mind, body, and spirit. She outlines the seven simple movement principles that underlie all human motion and provides exercises to help readers understand how they can achieve all yoga postures. She also discusses the ten ethical precepts that are the foundation of all yoga teachings and explains how to incorporate them into a spiritually and emotionally rewarding inner practice. At the heart of 'Yoga Mind, Body & Spirit' are more than seventy-five yoga asanas or postures. Each one is pictured and described in detail, and they are arranged into related groups -including standing postures, sitting postures, arm balances, and breathing practices - for easy reference. A huge resurgence of interest in yoga is sweeping the western world. With its broad scope and holistic approach, 'Yoga Mind, Body & Spirit' is the ideal book to meet this interest.

As a yoga teacher, I found this book to be a superb resource to dip into. Donna really knows her stuff and takes great care to explain the postures in great detail - not just on the physical level but also on more subtle levels. A beginner might well be put off by the wordiness of this book but for someone with a sincere interest in yoga and getting the most out of the postures, I would highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best in class 30 Nov 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
There are many books on yoga, particularly grounded in the Iyengar tradition. Donna Farhi's book manages to combine an earthy practical approach, with the subtlety of where postures touch the spiritual boundary. While many teachers try writing books on yoga but somehow miss the mark, this book for me reads like a perfected pose looks.

5.0 out of 5 stars a major work for anyone interested in yoga 11 Oct 2000
By M. Parr
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book has very detailed info on alignment, by a teacher coming from an Iyengar background, but is most definitely not just a posture book. It discusses the 'inner world' of yoga, and its life-enhacing possiblities. Whether you come from an iyengar background or not, you will find much to inspire you. Essential!
