This book has quite literally been a life saver for me. I injured my left knee around 6 years ago playing tennis, and the injury then spread for unknown reasons into my right knee. This was possibly due to overcompensating for the original injury and thus causing problems on the opposite side, but I'm not an expert, so I can't say for sure. Anyway, I've been practicing yoga for the last 10 or so years, and after not responding well to physiotherapy I started doing some research into what yoga asanas are beneficial for knee rehabilitation and strengthening of the surrounding muscles.
To begin with I was using a book by BKS Iyengar called "Yoga: A path to holistic health", which is an excellent all-round book on using yoga to heal and strengthen the body. Then one day I was browsing on the internet and I found this book. From the moment it arrived and I read through the very clear instructions, and then started using the suggested exercises it was a revelation to see how quickly my knees started to improve. This is definitely a program that you have to stick with and practice as regularly as possible. Over the last couple of years I have come back to it again and again when I feel any kind of discomfort while (or after) playing sport.
In my opinion what makes this book stand out most is how well it's put together. This includes the comprehensive and easy-to-understand instructions, the accompanying pictures and finally the 3 possible programs you can follow (15 mins, 30-45 mins and 45-60 mins) depending on the severity of the knee injury and/or how much time you have on your hands to do the exercises. Even if you have never practiced yoga don't let that put you off buying this book, it could not only give you some freedom back in terms of how you're able to exercise or enjoy any other physical activity, but it could also open the door to the wonderful world of yoga.
Another good book on the same topic is: "Treat Your Own Knees" by Jim Johnson
