This is an important book for people who are into yoga. It contains really crucial information that's missing in most contemporary publications and which is absolutely crucial if one really wants to improve his health. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that some parts of this book are exactly the same as in other Artour's books. Still, it deosn't make it less valuable.

This is a very interesting book on yoga breathing, and how to get more health benefits from yoga. There are probably as many breathing techniques,or ways to breathe as there are yoga teachers. Some styles have little emphasis on breathing, others have a lot. But Artour explains how reducing breathing should be the aim for improved health, and any yoga practices that increase breathing and change the basal breathing pattern in the wrong direction may reduce the benefits yoga could have. Some modern teachers of yoga may not understand the physiology behind the breathing. This is an important book for anyone teaching or learning yoga. It is well researched with plenty of references for how breathing used to be taught and understood:restrained breathing.

This book is really eye-opening, even to a longtime practitioner of yoga. I guess I never fully understood just how important breathing properly really is. After reading this book, I know I will get even more benefit from my yoga sessions.

Anyone who does yoga needs to read this book.

Finally the Truth about REAL Yoga and Correct breathing 2 May 2013
By Budster - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
It is indeed rare that someone has the experience and expertise in both Buteyko and Yoga. Too many well meaning yoga teachers simply have not learned the real history of proper breathing as it is not easily found in nearly all Yoga Books especially in English. Dr. Rakhimov is one of those rare researchers who digs as deep as it takes. He is also one of the acknowledged experts in teaching the enormously important work of Professor Konstantin P. Buteyko, M.D. Buteyko took the Russian medical world by storm in the 60s frightening the old boy network as he was able to demonstrate cures of over 200 diseases without the continued use of medication or machines by teaching people to breathe correctly. Revivifying, among other things, the vital importance of the Bohr relationship between Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide. At bottom line, that is also the real root of Yoga and it is about breathing less and always breathing through your nose. This last piece is well documented from 1870 by the famous portrait artist, George Catlin in is marvelous book "Shut Your Mouth and Save Your Life." The indigenous way of breathing.
This book of Dr. Rakhimov's will save your life in some instances and dramatically improve your health and the benefits from Yoga you may have practiced for years. Now you'll really get the full benefits of your time and efforts spent.

Very Provocative View of the Art of Breathing 24 Feb. 2013
By Phil Calandra - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
This is a very interesting book that disputes some commonly held theories on breathing. The main contention is that we benefit from breathing less than from breathing more and that, as a result, there is an increase in oxygen and CO2. Surprisingly, this increase in CO2 is a positive influencee on our health. The author provides numerous scientific studies backing up his assertions and it appears that there is more than enough evidence supporting these studies. However, these scientific studies are voluminous, somewhat lengthy and important only to the most scientific minded readers. Perhaps these studies should have been indexed rather than placed in the text of the book. Lastly, although the author does a first rate job in proving this theory, he does very little in explaining the technique. This technique of breathing was developed by Konstantin Buteyco and is very similar to some ancient yogic practices. Further information can be obtained from the internet under Buteyco. There are also several breathing devices including the Frolov Device, Ultrabreathe, Expand-A-Lung and others that can be used in conjunction with the Buteyco Technique for quicker progress.

don't do yoga until you read this first! 10 April 2012

This book was so good I couldn't stop reading until I finished the entire thing. If you are new to the Buteyko breathing method then you might not know any of the info in this book. I have read a lot on the subject but still learned some new things from this book. I can't wait until the author comes out with the second yoga breathing book! I need to apply this knowledge like now. Buy this book before you even think about joining a yoga class or doing it at home!

Don't miss out on this goldmine of information on Yoga and Breathing 26 Mar. 2013
By Danica - Published on Amazon.com

The book about Yoga and breathing I've been looking for.
All yoga teachers have their truth - here I'm given an introduction to why I should or shouldn't do what my yoga teacher tells me. The fact of breathing I hadn't been introduced to before in this way which gives a lot of meaning to me.
I think I'll be reading it once again pretty soon, so much stuff to take into consideration. Easy to read and easy to understand, when having had time to chew the matter over.
I can only recommend this book to all yoga teachers and their students.
