More About the Author

Anna Jacobs grew up in Lancashire and emigrated to Australia, but still visits the UK regularly to see her family and do research, something she loves. She is addicted to writing and she figures she'll have to live to be 120 at least to tell all the stories that keep popping up in her imagination and nagging her to write them down. She's also addicted to her own hero, to whom she's been happily married for many years.

Anna also writes fantasy novels as Shannah Jay.

Yew Tree Gardens is the third and final book from the Wiltshire Girls series by Anna Jacobs. These books are set in the early 20th century when the rights of women were upon the lips of everyone though rarely supported. Men were comfortable to rule uncontested.

The Wiltshire Girls are three ambitious but oppressed and abused sisters, Mattie, Nell and Renie, who in an act of desperate hopelessness conspire to escape from an all consuming worthless existence in the service of supporting a selfish, exploitative father.

In order to effect their plan these closely knit sisters separate. Mattie goes one direction while the younger Nell and Renie follow a different path.

Mattie's book is titled Cherry Tree Lane. The first Wiltshire Girls book.

Nell and Renie's escape is captured within the cover of the second book titled Elm Tree Road. However during this book Renie goes her own way thus leaving Elm Tree Road to complete the detail of Nell's story. Renie appears lost, last reported to be somewhere in France, which primes Yew Tree Gardens to pick up on the emotionally empowering journey undertaken by Renie. What an adventure.

Anyone who has the slightest interest in suffrage, of free thinking females wishing to command their own destiny via the accumulation of personal economic security has an obligation to read Yew Tree Gardens. After reading this book those old photos of someone's great, great grandmother will never appear the same.

Yew Tree Gardens by Anna Jacobs will treat you with the warmest memories you're ever likely to acquire. I promise you'll fall in love all over again. Five stars.

All three of the Wiltshire Girls books stand alone but for an extra mile of satisfaction read them together in order; Cherry Tree Lane, Elm Tree Road and Yew Tree Gardens. The experience will do you no harm what so ever and top you up with fond memories.

I have been an Anna Jacobs fan for many years and this is the only author that I think is worth buying in hardback. A truly excellent ending to this saga which I could not put down. Thank you Anna for your hard work and fantastic novels which never fail to please. This is a must read book for any fan of Anna Jacobs.

The three books in this series were the first I have read by Anna Jacobs. I started reading Cherry Tree Lane out of curiosity and found it difficult to wait for the next two books to come out. While all of the books could stand alone I think they are best read together and in order. While reading Nell's story I had a feeling that Renie's story would be the best of them all and I was right. Just the right amount of suspense, tragedy and of course romance thrown in. In Renie's story we see a bit more of the women's movement, and how life was like for a working woman and the sorts of things they all had to put up with. On the other side of the spectrum is Gil who comes from wealth and privilege and never worked a day in his life. At times I wondered how or when the two of them would actually meet and while the romance was a bit hurried compared to the other stories, it was still a touching love story and didn't disappoint. I'm only sorry that this is the end of the story as I enjoyed reading about these three women and their lives and what they managed to make of themselves. I guess I'll have to pass the books onto my anxiously waiting aunt and relive them through her.
