This is a fabulous book, full of meticulously researched science, beautiful pictures, astonishing facts and thought provoking theories. The first section is a very detailed and informative monograph on the science of the Yew; covering it's physiology and distribution, in great detail but in a very accessible, readable manner. The second half is a wonderful mix of information on pan-Eurasian religious iconography as it relates to the Yew and to other trees. Sometimes the author does seem to be drawing conclusions from very sparse evidence, and going on to build theories built on rather weak foundations; but the sheer range and volume of his researches result in some very thought provoking insights and his total passion for the Yew shines through. This is a very special book and should be on the shelves of all people who care about special and sacred trees.

I'm not often motivated to review books on amazon, but this one requires it. This is a spectacular book, full of detailed and loving research, an astonishing amount of well present information and gorgeous photography and images. The love and interest the author shows for his subject is obvious throughout the book.

a delight, 5 stars in no way do this justice.
