5.0 out of 5 stars absolutely beautiful 22 Mar 2006
By Autumn99 - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I read this book several years ago when I was in high school, back when I started reading romance novels. At that time, after reading a novel, I would just sell them to a used bookstore. However, today after I have enjoyed reading a novel, I actually keep them and believe that someday I will re-read them again. Thus, I regret that I sold this book several years ago when I was in high school.

After discovering and reading SSSSOOOO many historical romances, this is still one of the best that I have read out there. It's about a female fire fighter who goes back more than a hundred years ago and meets a fireman (all fire fighters were male back then) and about the huge San Francisco earthquake in 1906. This story is so romantic and beautiful. I really wish I still had it because it's so hard to find. But it's worth the find and if you do find it don't let it go because then it'll be even more hard to find it!!!!
5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely my favorite romance book. 29 Jan 2012

Format:Mass Market Paperback
This morning I decided to see if I could find one of my favorite books on Amazon, specifically in the Kindle store. I ever requested a copy be made available in Kindle version. I also notice that this other author Livia Reasoner had a book by the same name and went to investigate.

I was a bit shocked to find that the synopsis was almost identical as the one for my book and investigated further by reading part of the book by Ms. Reasoner. It certainly sounded the same as my book and I confirmed that they were indeed seemingly identical. I doubt that any author could just flagrantly copy another book and so I continued to investigate. Inside the cover of my book on the publisher's page it says that the book was copyrighted by none other than Livia Reasoner. Obviously the book under the name Elizabeth Hallam was written under a pen name. I haven't found anything to explain why, but that's not what's important.

What is important is that this book is a wonderful light romance which happens to involve time travel. And now we have it in Kindle format.

Our main character, Annabel works for the Forest Service and after crawling into a cave for shelter emerges into the world 0f 1906 outside of San Francisco. She's in a different time with when woman led vastly different lives than smoke jumping. How will she deal with a 100 years difference it time? How will she deal with her growing attraction to the firefighter, Cole Brady? And how will she handle the knowledge that the biggest earthquake in date is about to happen? This book draws you into the story and catches your interest. At the same time, being a light novel, it's just pure fun and entertainment.
4.0 out of 5 stars The Great Earthquake of San Francisco meets Time Traveler 29 July 2011
By L. B. Taylor - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I have been on a kick reading time-travel romances lately. I have wanted to clean up my to-be-read stash and I have a number of books with this genre. YESTERDAY'S FLAME is a little different in that the heroine is a modern-day smoke jumper. Previously Annabel Lowell worked as a fire fighter with the San Francisco Fire Department.

She is encounters a wildfire and takes shelter in a cave. Annabel finally comes to only to find out that she now lives in 1906. Soon she meets Cole Brady, well-known San Francisco businessman whose alter ego's job is SFFD fireman. Caught up with the refreshing difference in the way she acts and attracted to her looks, Cole assists Annabel in buying her some clothes and finding her a place to stay.

Remembering that 1906 is the year and San Francisco is the place of the Great Earthquake, Annabel assumes that is the reason she is brought back to this time. In the meantime both she and Cole become aware that they love each other. Annabel wants to continue being a firefighter but has discovered how differently men treat women in this era. In some ways she enjoys it and other ways she finds it stifling. Cole realizes that Annabel is unconventional. Attracted and yet confused he gets in trouble on several occasions when he says something that Annabel takes out of context. They find out that there is a great amount of give and take if they are going to make this relationship a go.

I found the story original with Cole's pursuit of Annabel. Annabel's actions were somewhat flighty and I found it a little hard-pressed to believe some of what went on. Still, I am aware that it is fiction and YESTERDAY'S FLAME was better than some TT romances that I've read recently.
