Product Description

Set in the futuristic Inner City of a unified Korea circa 2020 A.D. A series of grisly murders propel an overworked police investigator and a celebrated forensics profiler into a nightmarish spiral of death and discovery which proves that sometimes things are not always as they seem. Staying one step ahead of the police, a virtuoso killer known as 'Goliath' is able to unravel a mystery, which has haunted authorities for nearly 30 years. Yesterday is a science fiction thriller packed with action, mystery and suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. A cinematic masterpiece from Korea, which proves that the next great wave of Asian movie-making has arrived.

By Chinatown Blue TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This has to be one of the most entertaining films for the price I've picked up on Amazon. It is most definitely a thriller, with a dense plot packed with plenty of action, but it is also a great SF film; not with spaceships, aliens, or hugely intrusive effects, but with small and subtle touches of advanced tech that are actually used not simply as props, but which are integrated into the storyline and action. A lot of science fiction films I've seen have had to focus on their super techno-fx, overawed by their own visual cleverness. This one just throws away the futuristic stuff, treating it as everyday and run-of-the-mill, exactly as these people who live with it would. The story is a bit confusing and in the end loses out a little to me as it moves from a more realistic tale to more of a fantasy, but I suspect that on a second watching it may well become clearer; for anyone who can follow the original Korean, it might be easier. The subtitles are generally very good, with just the odd typo or slightly confused usage. The acting is superb, and the characters are genuinely believable - I actually found myself caring who made it through the (brilliantly staged) raids and fights, which is rare in an action film. I enjoyed the music too, and the visuals were excellent. Well worth the money.

Korea's Scifi Masterpiece!! 4 Oct 2004
By J. D Naae - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
I really don't want to say anything to spoil this movie, it's a great movie though. The plot follows a detective as he tries to unravel a serial killer's wake of murders. When the reality of what was happening began setting in, the truth behind secret military genetic experiments, know as Project Lucas, are slowly revieled. This movie is a great Scifi Movie and though it is complelty different than American Scifi such as the Matrix, it would probaly be just as amusing to any fan of good SciFi. Over all "Yesterday" is a little violent, but the ideas and concepts within the plot are nothing less than clasic Science Fiction.

Could have been better 7 Nov 2004
By JYK - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
It's rare to find a good sci-fi movie from Korea, so I really tried to keep an open mind. However, I must admit to being disappointed. The premise is intriguing. It's reunified Korea and a string of murders are happening with the victims being once-prominent government-employed scientists. The story deals with cloning and genetic experiementation and could have been a tightly-crafted futuristic thriller in the vein of 'The Minority Report'. Also, the inherent cultural struggles of a newly reunited country that developed differently for over 50 years. However, the wooden acting from the cast (it's worse if you watch in original Korean) and the lack of direction sink the movie. The action scenes are adequate, but otherwise a disappointment.

Turned out to be good but.... 10 Dec 2006
By P. Weir - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
This movie was quite hard work. I love Korean movies and I prefer a plot which requries some thought rather than being led by the hand to an obvious conclusion. However I have to admit I spent about half this movie trying to figure out what was going on.

A movie will generally start by 1) introducing the characters and then having events take place, or, 2) by throwing you to a situation with the characters and then revealing more about them over time. "Yesterday" didn't really do either.

The opening scenes are interesting but you have no clue as to the relationship of the characters (which in the case of the Captain and the young boy just means you dont understand the significance of the scene at all). You don't realy start getting a feel for the characters until about two thirds of the way through the movie.. which feels like quite a long time. This makes it hard going watching the movie. You spend more time wondering whats going on instead of trying to figure out whats going on (if you know what I mean).

Overall the movie is worth watching.. it is well filmed, has good acting, etc... it just feels like hard work wtaching all the way through.
