Far and away the longest lasting and the most successful of the '70s progressive rock groups, Yes proved to be one of the lingering success stories from that musical genre. The band, founded in 1968, overcame a generational shift in its audience and the departure of its most visible members at key points in its history to reach the end of the century as the definitive progressive rock ... All 18 minutes of Close to the Edge. A crazy 6 minute Rick Wakeman special. This and other treats for the Yes fan.

Roundabout and Starship Trooper versions are great. Starship Trooper has great solos by Wakeman and Howe at the end.

Heart of the Sunrise is a tricky song with some crazy time signatures and so on. It hangs together better here on Yessongs than in the studio, and Jon Anderson really belts it out. I'd say the Yessongs version is the definitive cut of this song.

Siberian Khatru, again, is better than the original and works brilliantly as an opener.

Great rhythmically super-tight version of "Perpetual Change" as well.

They're all old geezers now, but here they are young and on fire.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classi YES Live 7 May 2013
Format:MP3 Download|Verified Purchase
I only bought this to complete my back catalogue, Rick Wakeman's keyboard solo was always a highlight for me ... unfortunately, time has no respect for memories, and i found myself not so entranced as i was at fifteen. LOL!

Cracking concert though, I had the pleasure of seeing them live in Glasgow during the last tour with the original members and they were even more awesome playing great music and joking away with each other and the audience.

Genius from start to finish. Incredible playing, writing, even love the early 70's live productions. Wish we had more music like this these days!

Grew into other music over the years... But in the 70's the grooves are worn on the album Yessongs I own.
Beautiful and complicated music, that is loud and soft, simply a great trip back in time. Yessongs is great.
I like the live versions on this album over some of the studio versions...
4.0 out of 5 stars Yes, I do... 19 April 2013

Probably the best live line up that Yes ever had. The live sound is not bad for the times, although Yes always used a lot of keyboard sounds from the start, and these were difficult to balance in the mix during the live performances. Probably the biggest exceptions were the ELP shows, where the keyboards are not competing with other frecuencies. Having said that Wakeman is absolutely amazing in these shows.
5.0 out of 5 stars The best progressive rock band 17 Mar 2013

Yes is by far the greatest progressive rock band - ever. This is a fantastic live concert. Their live performance is so precise, Steve Howe and Chris Squire are flawless and Jon Anderson's vocals are gorgeous. If you don't know Yes, get to know them.

Many of the most favored cuts collected in one place. Unfortunately many of real gems on the original albums closely support the cuts on this release and are lost in the translation. If storage or money are an issue, this album has been an acceptable substitutefor me. I have purchased this selection several times inseveral formats.it remains my go to backbone in every reorganization of my music collection.
