What I like about this series is the satirical portrayal of the workings of the government in conjuction with the civil service. The civil service is a political device which enables the country to run steadily whoever is in power and I like the way each modifies the other!! The interaction of the three main characters is witty and truly superb. The minister is thought of as half-witted and easily manipulated but in fact he often outwits his secretary and accomplice! It is the constant power game which gives his comedy tension and the witty use of language...the way pompous use, verbosity is mocked as a means of obfuscation...I find this so humorous that it knocks the edge off the ghastly goings on in politics at the moment.
