Strength to strength,
By A Customer
This review is from: Yes I Am (Audio CD)
Melissa Etheridge is clearly moving from strength to strength; her performance becoming ever more polished without losing any of it's lyrical power to evoke the strongest of emotions in her listeners. Silent Legacy is particularly heartshaking - 'Resist' and 'I'm the Only One' also speaking so much for so many of us.Neither has she lost her ability to make her listeners want to get up and MOVE - particularly in 'All American Girl' and 'Resist' which has the ability to combine evocation of memory and emotion with the strongest of urges to express these in oneself with movement. This is a great gift; too many musicians can do both - but not in the same track at the same time. Topped off by her brilliant guitar - a star - yes, she is!

Yes I am.. in love with this album!,

This review is from: Yes I Am (Audio CD)
This is supposed to have been Melissa's biggest album and it's not hard to see why. This is one of the best albums I have ever purchased and I would recommend it to anyone. The whole album is of sing along standard with rocky tunes that speak to each of us in different ways as it dives into the world of relationships and love.
This is a little description of the tracks and how the album plays out but if you're not really interested in such detail scroll down to the last line! `I'm the only one' starts off the show with a declaration of being the only person who can fulfil another's every need. `If I wanted to' has a fun play on lyrics with a `I'm quite capable of not loving you if I want....not!' attitude. This is one of the best tracks to exercise your lungs to. `Come to my window' is one of Melissa's most well known tracks and details all the things she'd do for love. A best seller for good reason... `Silent Legacy' is a bit on the more acoustic side to begin with before exploding into its climax and then returning to the original softer feel. The lyrics are beautiful and carry a very important touching meaning. `I will never be the same' is one of the softer slow tracks and is one of my favourites as you can just kick back and relax while it lulls you into a semi dreamland. A song about a loved lost and a woman left behind with a broken heart who will never be the same. `All American Girl', `Yes I am' and `resist' takes the album back into the land of rock and roll to get you out of the melancholy the previous track drags you into. `ruins' opens in much the same way `chrome plated heart' does on Melissa's first album. It lives up to the standards set by that one without trouble. `Talking to my angel' wraps up the album and listener in a cocoon with Melissa's voice taking a soothing nature as she attempts more of a ballad than a rock song. The lyrics are bittersweet as is the tune as you let it take over. A good way to end the album as it brings your heart rate back down to normal after all the excitement. This album should be a part of any self respecting rockers / ME fans collection and is definitely worth every penny.

This CD rocks!,

This review is from: Yes I Am (Audio CD)
This is the first CD I have bought by Melissa Ehteridge, and it will not be the last. She has a powerful voice and honesty to go with it. Her music is filled with raw emotion rarely expressed. Her "Yes I Am" is down right sensual with her line " desire they cannot comprehend". Her rough, smokey voice has been compared with Bruce Springsteen and Janice Joplin; however, she has her own sound. Keep going Melissa!
