Product Description

Yemen is shrugging off its image of being a country with a security issue, to reveal its stunning landscape and fascinating culture – justifiably worth visiting by professional archaeologists, historians, the business traveller, or those making the most of Yemen's adventure sports such as hiking and scuba-diving. All will gain thrills treading on ground which is the site of the Sabaean dynasty – the era of the fabled Queen of Sheba. Yemen is undoubtedly the choice of those interested in digging deeper into regional culture.

Yemen 25 May 2009
Format:Paperback
This book initially offers a broad context for 'contemporary' Yemen - if that's not a contradiction in terms. The practical travel guide section is concise and provides valuable information on hotels, restaurants and sights for travellers, with a scattering of amusing personal insights thrown in. Some of the maps are a little light on detail, as is the chapter on Socotra but all round Bradt's Yemen is a useful travelling companion for anyone visiting the country for the first time.

There's plenty of info for the traveller-history, culture, hotels etc. Also 13 sides of colour photos. But as an armchair traveller only, it doesnt really inspire

Disappointing 25 Oct 2008
By I
Format:Paperback
For a pretty much the only recent book on Yemen available in the market, this one is extremely badly written. It boasts long passages on history of cities but when it comes to actual travel advice of what to see, what to do, etc., it is brief and by far lacks excitement. The language is boring and the book could benefit from images of the places to see. To be honest, if I didn't know about Yemen from other sources, having read this book, I would wonder "Why bother?"
