This is a really cute story of the conventional black spider and his relationship to the unconventional yellow bird. The spider, with his very cutely drawn little judgmental spider faces questions the bird over and over about "Why don't you..." [do the conventional things birds do], like sing a pretty song, fly, build a nest, eat some worms. The bird replies that he/she (doesn't specify) prefers to sail, to play guitar, to stay at a hotel...and on the final page
**note... this will be a "spoiler" -- but most of us WANT to know how our children's books will end, especially when there is a moral, so here goes...
rather than eat worms, he/she prefers to eat spiders.
A little morbid maybe to some, but in my opinion a really poignant message about how those of us who are unconventional aren't just going to sit back and take hassling from those who would prefer us all to just do what is expected of us.
I am sad this book isn't currently available for regular purchase, but in my opion well worth picking up one of the marketplace copies available. An excellent gift for a child in an unconventional family.
