Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The A1 People have been releasing music in the finest electro tradition since 1998, Matt Early's departure to Dub Marines finds guitarist Tom Crook being promoted to desk duties together with original A1 Person Simeon Bowring on this The Yellow Album. The persistent bleeps of single "Casio Rock" sets the agenda for the album, loosing much of the funkadelic aspirations of 2001's Visit EP, in favour of a return to the sweaty dancefloors of the capital with which they first made their mark. As such, body-popping synths are the dominating force here, the aforementioned track lifting its beats from a preset on the retro Casio VL tone and its vocal from a vocoder but shunting this archaic machinery into the next century through bolting on some screaming acidics and booty shaking basslines. "Crazy Electro Music," "Detroit Style" and "Rhythm Machine" all speak for themselves--all thumping 909 kicks and wobbly low end but the album does offer some deviation with "The Freak" and "The Reason" offering a charming set of more maudlin electronica. The latter being the pick of the two with twinkling melodies contrasted with bubblesome back-end and a vocal that captures the pub philosophy of a punch-drunk paranoid android. --Kingsley Marshall

Not another 80s style album!
True if you look at the synths they list on this album you would think that the 90s never happened. But A1 People have produced a superb lush warm sound bubbling away with tunes to die for. From the opening track "Black Ice" and on to the fab Casio VL tone sampling "Casio Rock" this cd is head and shoulders above the competition! I could drool over most of the tracks and to be honest there is one or two "fillers", but if you liked "Light And Magic" by Ladytron or Felix Da Housecat "Thee Kittenz And Thee Glitz" then i say buy this now!

The Yellow Album 22 Jan 2003
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
The Yellow Album is a return to electronic electro experimentation for A1 People. It is a futuristic view of the world which carries echoes of the future of Bladerunner or Terminator. It is a sculpted sound which is influenced by the likes of Kraftwerk through to The Human League but has a modern interpretation of these themes. A1 People can create tracks that kick on the dancefloor and at the sametime engage and challenge the listener. My favourite album for a very long time!

This is CASIO ROCK!! 15 Feb 2003
By sarah janes - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
If you ever annoyed your parents with the tinny, towtown percussion on one of those funky little home keyboards in the 80's, this will bring back unbelivable nostalgia!! When I 1st heard the 1st track, I thought "oh no, another really *deep*, *dark* encounter of the cheezy electronica kind. Oh no. I was very wrong, as soon as I heard the dirty bass on track #2 "casio rock" and the Gary Numanesq melodic synth on #3 I loved it! It's really diverse as well, by the time you get down to #4 "Crazy Electro Music" (my favourite) you reach the realms of massively uplifting funky techno. This is Pure electronic, modern electronic, the highest definition ever achieved in sound" Luke Vibert

Moderate offering 12 July 2004

Yellow Album offers moderate satisfaction. For a better time (and lower cost), find The Reason EP which has some great tracks.
