Synopsis

And here I beg my readers to recollect that I am in no way answerable for the speculations, either of Lancelot or any of his acquaintances; and that these papers have been, from beginning to end, as in name, so in nature, Yeast--an honest sample of the questions, which, good or bad, are fermenting in the minds of the young of this day, and are rapidly leavening the minds of the rising generation.

About the Author

Charles Kingsley was a professor of history, a novelist, and a parish priest. He wrote about Greek mythology and evolution he was one of the first intellectuals to praise Darwin. His novels' chief strength is their vivid natural description. Kingsley was associated with the Christian Socialism movement and with the phrase muscular Christianity,"" which he detested. A remark of his denigrating Catholic clergy led to John Henry Newman's Apologia Pro Vita Sua.""

1.0 out of 5 stars Not about yeast in any way, that I can tell 9 Jan. 2011

Admittedly, I have not plowed through this entire book, which appears to be a novel of some sort. I was browsing free books in Kindle and saw the title and thought I might as well download it since it was free. One would think the subject was candidiasis or maybe alcoholism and the temperance movement. There is a long preface to the fourth edition where the author talks at length about the Poor Act in England and farming but having scanned many pages of this work, I really have no idea what it's about. If you are getting it because of the title, do not bother.

The author just rambles on about this or that. Not sure how he came up with this title. It makes no sense.
