Synopsis

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of BBC News on television, this is a fascinating series of programmes that look back on the past five decades. Each programme is a 30-minute segment covering a decade, beginning with the 1950s. Providing insight into how BBC News is reported, each segment is narrated by one of the following key news figures: Charles Wheeler, Michael Buerk, Kate Adie, John Simpson and Jeremy Bowen. Also includes three extra programmes from 1953, 1963 and 2004 about how the news is produced.

This is a great documentary on world events covered by BBC News from 1954 to 2004.

It shows how the BBC are world class in accurately reporting some of the major events of our recent history.

With narration from some of the corporations most distinguished journalists each decade is dealt with in 30 minute segments.

Events included in the production are the Cuban Missile Crisis, The Moon Landings, IRA Terrorism, 9/11 attacks.

The documentary is both educational and gripping and I can't recommended this enough.

GREAT NEWS GREAT BBC 28 Mar 2009
As we all know, BBC has a world-wide reputation built on it's news quality, it's non-censorship news production(at least it's said so).. and this DVD bring you back to the very first Television News that BBC ever made, and dates back to the very important events in the history. very nice, it even contains 3 short film that explain how news produced in BBC, before and now.

50YRS OF BBC NEWS 15 Aug 2010
A good general review of how the BBC has reported news over the last fifty years. From black and white to colour. From the formality of early presenters clearly not used to the visual medium to the practiced media people of today. Each decade is introduced by a well known broadcaster from that era. Recommended.
