This is the kind of TV you can safely and enjoyably watch with your grandma, or grandkids. This collection offers three full series which makes it great value; if you bought them separately then you'd pay about sixty quid, so in this format they are half price.

Alan Titchmarsh (whose gardening career started at Kew) narrates a charming series of half hour programmes which are almost defiantly olde Englishe in their style. Each series follows a different set of people at Kew Gardens, and gives an overview of their specialities and how they husband the plants, grounds, trees and special events which are a part of the Royal Botanic Gardens. The photography is occasionally spectacular, and each episode is both educational and colourful. Even the incidental music is well chosen.

The series isn't wildly challenging or controversial, nor is it packed with tips for hands-on gardening. It's not that sort of show. Instead we see behind the scenes at the 300 acre site, and begin to understand what goes in to keeping the Kew collection in good health. With many plant species under threat in their natural environments, the series also shows the efforts Kew are making to conserve different plants, and how their field research is vital in this field.
Overall, there's plenty of entertaining viewing here. Ideal gift for your mum...

I bought this DVD because so many of my friends are enthusiastic gardeners. They love it. I don't love gardening, but I love this series. It approaches the subject by focusing on the gardeners, and what a lot of fascinating information emerges. Their tribulations, their overseas collecting, their big occasions (and such a lot more) are all included. It's the DVD I watched when I had a nasty pain at 3 a.m. and didn't want to ring the doctor. The pain went away and so has the video - the news has spread and everyone wants to borrow it.

I enjoyed every minute of these. Hopefully there will be a series 4!!! The people who work at Kew were made to shine during these programmes and it left you wanting more.

The series is inspiring, but little of what you learn that can be transferred to a small private garden. A magnificent series. Recommended wholeheartedly, I've seen my DVD several times.

This collection of DVD's really bring the gardens at Kew to life. Even better if you have visited them and they are already familiar. Knowing what goes on in the background to keep the collection so well maintained is mind-boggling but you get to know the staff as friends and live the working day with them becoming aware of how much they care about the whole place. If I lived closer to London and could afford to visit more often I would, however this DVD is the next best thing!

Really glad to have received this item. Being from Canada, these episodes are like NEVER on TV over here. I play them on my portable DVD player, plugged up to my TV. My DVD player has a switch for different regions to play movies.
Thanks again. I will enjoy this series for sure.
