Bought this as a gift for a young couple who have just bought a house with a field attached and are thinking of trying to create a wild flower meadow. A beautifully produced book, with fabulous wild flower illustrations. It is however a little bit'scary' in that there's lots abt using large diggers etc and made them feel that maybe it was too big a task to contemplate, rather more a 'coffee table' book perhaps? If you are able to contemplate large earth moving tasks and big scale works then it's great, but if your resources, energy and time are less ambitious there are other books which might be more helpful and make the task seem less daunting.

A very helpful accompaniment to the would-be meadow maker. There are many photos of plants pressed from the meadow, quite unusual in a book like this but extremely helpful, you feel you can pick the plants up and know them, a photo of a plant in situ is often so much less useful surprisingly enough. The large size of this book also helps give you the feeling you can pick these plants up and get to know them. Very good. But this shouldn't be your only book. Chris Bains has a very tried and tested book that I have treasured for 25 years now. How to Make a Wildlife Garden

This book is lovely and from one person's pov we follow the simple logic of restoring land to its orginal beauty. And the land is divided into 'rooms' that change in character and use, no better idea and no simpler, something that all of us can do. Each taking one simple step to restore balance to our world. Cannot wait to get started, what a lovely project! that will speak a thousand words when done.
