Tablets, where do you start? Even a man with pretty much all the requirements he has in mind for a device with a budget he will stand by will be absolutely saturated in different models and features, choosing the right tablet for you can be a bit of a pain.

We all know the ipad, and we all know that it costs a fortune and even though most people would like a tablet for certain purposes the price just doesn't justify it in most cases, so we decide to come down to Earth a bit more and look for cheaper tablets with different operating systems, well, one really: Android, this operating system dominates like the Ryugyong Hotel in Pyongyang, it's pretty much Windows of the mobile computer world, and with that, comes a good thing and a bad thing.

the Good thing is that a operating system we get familiar with on our phones and tablets is available in many different forms, meaning we can choose from a wide variety of hardware to suit our cosmetic and functionality needs, the bad part is that this is an operating system that's designed to run on many different hardware configurations unlike Apple's OS, which means that glitches and slowdowns will arise from time to time, and unlike computer desktop and laptops, you can't upgrade Ram or the processor, if it's slow and choppy, you have two options, either hope that future releases of Android optimise performance on sluggish tablets or buy another one. Buy cheap, buy twice resonates through all our heads whilst looking at these Android tablets.

Firstly, it's not clear where the 1GB RAM is - the Storage section shows under 512MB between the apps and available. Secondly, the charger port seems very unreliable - I have 2 and one stopped charging after less than 2 weeks. Third, the battery life is very short compared to the Kindle Fire, Nexus 7, Playbook or any known-name tablet. Fourth, the tablet discharges pretty rapidly while on standby. Finally, 'support' comes in the form of posting on their bulletin board and hoping that you get a response at some point, and given that some have raised a question about things like the memory some time ago without a response, that's not at all reassuring.
On the good points, the touchscreen does seem to be pretty good, and while only 1024x600 resolution, the screen has good viewing angles as well, so for a media player it can potentially do the job. The built-in 8GB of storage seems pretty slow (e.g. when transferring apps to the card), but for most media it's not going to be an issue, and you can put in a MicroSD card to significantly expand the storage, unlike a lot of more expensive tablets (this is clearly at a bit of a selling point).
You can run Google Play to install a fairly wide selection of apps, and common ones like Cut The Rope and Angry Birds seem to work just fine.
You can install Skype, too, although with just a very poor front camera (and no rear one) I wouldn't expect too much from this, even in good lighting conditions.

The price point and features put it ahead of some of the ultra-cheap tablets by the likes of Ainol, but alongside the likes of the Playbook. The latter will have more storage, better build, battery life, better speakers, cameras, etc, but has a much smaller selection of available apps. That last point may be a deal-breaker, but otherwise I'd suggest either stretching to the Nexus 7 (or Galaxy Tab 2), or going with the Playbook, or even a Kindle Fire.

Was given the Yarvik Tab275euk as a Xmas present from my husband, from day one cant get past my internet providers homepage asking me to register (BT) my wifi signal is fair home hub is upstairs good signal, but downstairs terrible signal, cannot access aps when do they are not up to to date or no signal, not connected to the internet and I am extremely frustrated, this was bought so I could sit in comfort downstairs and not locked away in an office upstairs, any suggestions?

At first glance, this is a really impressive piece of kit for the money. However, having used it for a few days, I couldn't cope with how slow this was on Wi-Fi. Everything took an age. Browsing the web was impossible, and downloading even the smallest app from the Play Store took ages. The unit Amazon sent to me had clearly been returned previously (tabs on box broken and protective film on screen removed, and very badly replaced), but Amazon were very good at dealing with this complaint. They were also excellent when it came to returning it, so hats off to them for that. Am now researching an alternative
