Simply put, this is one of the most impressive and original poets of all time. His poems are so profound and full of life. He is surely one of Greece great poets along with George Seferis and Odysseus Elytis. This is the only book of poetry that I keep next to my bed because whenever I feel bored with life, I find my shelter within the words of this man. Words that are so rich with humanity, and sheer lyrical power. I loved his poetry so much that I have translated a great number of poems into Arabic along with some of his longer poems such as Orestes, The Bridge, and Agamemnon and were all successfully published in one of the local newspapers.

It was reported that he was nominated nine times for the Noble Prize for Literature but he did not win. Great poets such as Ritsos need no prizes. Their greatness endlessly emanates from their words.

I recommend this book to all the lovers of poetry. These poems are life-changing. Highly recommended.

To be honest I have had difficulty immersing myself in this book.I think I would mave enjoyed the works separated more between the shorter and longer poems.
If you are new to the poems of Ritsos I would recommend David Harsents book.
