They offer an ideal amount of air resistance for easy control, and feature an accuracy of intonation you would expect to find only on more expensive models. Though other plastic recorders may have a similar appearance, Yamaha ABS recorders are truly superior instruments. The 20 series, easy to play throughout their entire ranges, are primarily intended for beginners.

The fife arrived on time and in perfect condition, which was good. However as it was a gift I haven't tried to play it.

This is not an instrument I would be rushing to buy another off. It's just okay. The fingering takes a bit of time to get the hang off, especially if you are not familiar with playing a recorder.

To call it a fife is a bit of a stretch. Traditional fifes have just six holes, rather like an Irish Whistle and employ the same fingering technique. Again a traditional fife is usually made from wood, this Yamaha is made from molded plastic.

It's interesting and a bit of a challenge as I haven't tried one before. Who knows, some day I just might come to like it.

Trouble is I'm much more a recorder girl; the fingering is just too diferent and so I never really found the enthusiasm for this one. Yammaha make great cheap plastic recorders (the see through ones are fun) which I find easier to play and enjoy.
