I looked at a lot of systems before settling on the YHT-294, including Onkyo, Denon and and Sony. Most were £400 or more for a similar spec with 3D compatibility. The unit has been connected to my Samsung 3D TV and Blu-Ray, and the 3D works perfectly. It takes up to 4 HDMI inputs, with a single HDMI out for the TV. To play the TV audio you will need an extra connection, I'm using an optical output.
Set-up is fairly straightforward, with a quick set-up guide in the box. The main manual is on a CD. The surround speakers are very compact, but have plenty of volume without distortion, and the powered sub gets the job done with a bass you can feel.
The system comes with a microphone allowing for auto-setup of the speaker balance, making configuration much easier. You can also adjust the balance manually. There are lots of opportunities for customisation if you want to adjust the output to your personal preferences. A range of sound fields can be selected to optimise the output for music or movies with a good range of options (concert hall, sci-fi movie, action movie...). The only thing missing is an on screen display, but its easy enough to operate using the LED front panel.
Overall for a 5.1 amp system, with speakers and speaker cable included, this is a great value option, which I'm happy to recommend.
