This isn't as simple as it should be to get to work - the audio is fine but getting video to play was a massive pain - especially for a AV newb like me. HOWEVER, the customer service by Yamaha UK was absolutely fantastic. I was frustrated and ready to return the item when I decided as a last ditch effort to email Yamaha UK through their website. I filled in the online form, not expecting much - I got a system generated acknowledgement straight away and a human written response within twenty minutes that explained EXACTLY what I needed to do.
Here are the pertinant details:
I have paired this dock with a Yamaha RX-V467 AV Receiver.
To get visuals on the screen you need a composite video cable (single yellow end to single yellow end) - I plugged the tv end into a yellow socket on the back of the tv. On the AV Receiver I plugged it into a yellow socket labelled VIDEO in the MONITOR OUT section, directly below the HDMI input 2 socket on the RX-V467.
Make sure the A-B thingy on the back is set to 'A' unless you've got an old receiver that is listed in the sparse manual.
Bang the iPod / iPhone in the dock.
Select AV on your tv remote
Select DOCK on your AV Receiver - job done.
The rest is easy to pick up. The iPod / iPhone charges in the dock. Press DISPLAY on your AV remote and you can scroll through your music / video with the names displayed on your AV receiver - bit easier to see from the couch.
I have tried music and music videos off my iPod and all work well.
I have also tried music; podcasts (video and audio); films bought from iTunes and tv programmes put on by me and all worked fine. I haven't tried pictures or video from my iPhone camera roll yet but I assume they work. Someone mentioned you might need to play them on the iPhone as a slideshow rather than using your AV remote but I'm not too fussed about doing that.
All in all an excellent piece of kit. The price seems to fluctuate between 35 and 65 and at the lower end it is definately worth it. At the higher price it might be more of an extravagance but still nice to have as the sound is infinately better than it would be going through the headphone socket.
