5.0 out of 5 stars Great interface 23 Feb 2009
Quite pricey but at least you know it will work - plenty of cheap alternatives but I prefer the Yamaha brand.

THE NUMBER ONE GAFF WITH MIDI CONNECTIONS is connecting IN to IN and OUT to OUT (although this seems sensible at first!). This is a very common mistake and an absolute classic! Just make sure you connect IN-OUT and OUT-IN......much as you would connect the power inlet on a device to a power outlet on a wall (you don't go linking all your plug sockets together do you?!).

5.0 out of 5 stars Yamaha UX-16 MIDI USB Cable 7 Dec 2010
I ordered this after reading numerous bad reviews of the cheaper products, and Yamaha being a very trusted name in the music world I decided to go for it; and I am glad I did! I am avid organist, and have installed both Miditzer and Hauptwerk (Paramount 310 Theatre Organ), both of which work great with the UX-16. Polyphony is fantastic, little if any latency, and runs very well with both Windows XP (pro 32 bit on a low-spec laptop) and Windows 7 (64 bit). The cables are nice and long so no issues with length, and the unit looks nicely made and tough enough to take being slung into a flight case or swung about a bit by gigging musicians in need of a trusty Midi interface, so no worries there either.

It is advised to run the UX-16's driver/utility disk (provided with the UX-16) BEFORE plugging the UX-16 into the USB port, although the drivers for Windows 7 were not on the disk, but a link was provided to download the latest drivers, and everything went smooth as silk and worked perfectly. Remember also, as already stated here, to plug the OUT cable of the UX-16 into the IN port of your Keyboard/Organ/Etc, and the IN cable of the UX-16 to the OUT port of the instrument you're using. Opposites attract...

All in all a great product and ideal for budding home-musicians and gigging pros alike.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well 29 April 2010

There's not a lot to review, really, but it works well.
The main (good) thing is that there is no noticeable delay at all. I've heard that some cheaper products have quite large delays.

The instructions for installation were some of the most confusing I've seen, and seem to contradict themselves. But if you just ignore it all, plug the device in, put the CD in and get windows to search for the drivers it works fine. This is for Vista (it may be different for other systems).

The IN and OUT "labels" are very hard to read on the plugs.

But like I said, it works very well, and works fast.
