Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The Yamaha SW1000XG is no ordinary sound card--manufactured by one of the leading audio equipment companies this is a card designed and made especially for musicians. Let's get things clear: this isn't a card for die-hard gamers. With no game port, no standard 1/8" audio jacks, no fancy surround sound support and not even an audio CD pass through, this card has been created with an entirely different job in mind.

Based around Yamaha's MU100 synthesiser this sound module equips you with an arsenal of over 1,200 professional quality sounds including 46 drum kits, all crammed into 20 MB of onboard memory. The card is capable of producing six stereo channels, or 12 mono channels with mixing, all of which tie in with the card's DSP3 effects generator. This offers over 70 programmable effects all generated in real time by the card and applied to either digital audio or MIDI tracks.

Connection-wise the card uses high quality gold RCA jacks for stereo out, plus co-axial digital and has a 1/8" mini jack for microphone or line-in. A mini-DIN port provides MIDI in and out ports thanks to a supplied adapter.

The card comes with rather outdated drivers that work fine but better DirectX support and lower latency require updating from the Yamaha XG Web site. Installation is trouble free, though the supplied individual programs such as XG Editor and XGworks need to be installed manually. A reasonable paper manual is supplied with extensive additional help and information available on disc.

If you're serious about studio based-music the SW1000XG combines a 64-voice polyphonic synthesiser, independent effects, a quality Windows sound card, virtually noiseless connections and more into a unit of the highest quality, all tied to your PC. Consequently, the seemingly steep price is actually extremely good value. --Nick Baxter

One of the top sound cards, in the music industry, with the ability to record instruments individually on seperate channels! It's got midi in, spdif in and out, optical in and out, Line in on a 1/4 inch jack and phono connections! One top card, what ever you use it for! Seperate out boards are available too!

5.0 out of 5 stars My sound card, 15 Dec 2010
This review is from: Yamaha SW1000XG PCI Sound & Music Card (Electronics)
I have owned this card since it was released many years ago. When my one failed due to problem with phantom power blowing one side of output I was very relieved to bs able to source another one which works exactly like my old one. Also bundled in the package was the XGFactory. Both cards together on their day would have cost about 700
So very happy camper

5.0 out of 5 stars PERFECT for MIDI sequencing!, 2 Mar 2004
This review is from: Yamaha SW1000XG PCI Sound & Music Card (Electronics)
This card was the turning point of my music making days! It has a lod of voiced in XG and even compatble with GM2! The sounds can be edited and modified in several ways. There are a huge amount of wave channels to used and since hte wave prossecing is done on the card it will not tie up your CPU. Easy to set-up but the instructions i got were in some european language so i went on to the yamaha website and there they were!
