I ordered this after reading numerous bad reviews of the cheaper products, and Yamaha being a very trusted name in the music world I decided to go for it; and I am glad I did! I am avid organist, and have installed both Miditzer and Hauptwerk (Paramount 310 Theatre Organ), both of which work great with the UX-16. Polyphony is fantastic, little if any latency, and runs very well with both Windows XP (pro 32 bit on a low-spec laptop) and Windows 7 (64 bit). The cables are nice and long so no issues with length, and the unit looks nicely made and tough enough to take being slung into a flight case or swung about a bit by gigging musicians in need of a trusty Midi interface, so no worries there either.

It is advised to run the UX-16's driver/utility disk (provided with the UX-16) BEFORE plugging the UX-16 into the USB port, although the drivers for Windows 7 were not on the disk, but a link was provided to download the latest drivers, and everything went smooth as silk and worked perfectly. Remember also, as already stated here, to plug the OUT cable of the UX-16 into the IN port of your Keyboard/Organ/Etc, and the IN cable of the UX-16 to the OUT port of the instrument you're using. Opposites attract...

All in all a great product and ideal for budding home-musicians and gigging pros alike.

Quite pricey but at least you know it will work - plenty of cheap alternatives but I prefer the Yamaha brand.

THE NUMBER ONE GAFF WITH MIDI CONNECTIONS is connecting IN to IN and OUT to OUT (although this seems sensible at first!). This is a very common mistake and an absolute classic! Just make sure you connect IN-OUT and OUT-IN......much as you would connect the power inlet on a device to a power outlet on a wall (you don't go linking all your plug sockets together do you?!).

There's not a lot to review, really, but it works well.
The main (good) thing is that there is no noticeable delay at all. I've heard that some cheaper products have quite large delays.

The instructions for installation were some of the most confusing I've seen, and seem to contradict themselves. But if you just ignore it all, plug the device in, put the CD in and get windows to search for the drivers it works fine. This is for Vista (it may be different for other systems).

The IN and OUT "labels" are very hard to read on the plugs.

But like I said, it works very well, and works fast.

Bought this specific product as it was recommended for my keyboard manual. I am learning piano/keyborard and wanted to be able to record my output/progress in a fun way using my PC and to be able to dabble in due course in midi/music mixing. I am using this device with Sony Acid Music Studio software and it seems to work fine with that.

As other reviewers have stated I had to use the supplied CD to help me go find the Windows 7 64 bit driver via the web links on the CD. The manual tells you not to plug in the device before installing the driver but the driver installation then said it found no device present and could not install! I was therefore not sure whether this had installed OK the first time so I repeated the install with the device connected just in case. A bit confusing but all seems to have worked out OK for me without too much hassle. You can check if the driver has installed via Control Panel where it sets up its own configuration utility.

The device needs no separate power it is powered through the USB bus.

All I would add is that midi-music is clearly something quite advanced and therefore I will need a lot of time and patience to begin to get best use out of this device and the software I have got! That's not the device's fault!

The cable does the job it was designed to do. No time delay between playing the note on the keyboard and being read by the software on the computer. I would recommend this Midi Cable for anyone who owns a Yamaha keyboard and wants to transfer music onto a computer.

This item is expensive compared with many on the net but it does the job. In case that sounds like faint praise, I should say that, having bought a cheap generic unit I was left doubting the circuitry of my computer & midi instruments and my ability to set them up! The Yamaha unit channels signals properly: there are no computer-crashing digital echoes and (so far) it has worked well with non-Yamaha instruments.

On the debit side, the markings on the input & output plugs are extremely difficult to read: there's little point in a 'stylish' finish if non-one can read the embossed markings. Tracing them over with a black dry marker has been some improvement but it's a daft design fault in an otherwise useful unit.

The hardware itself is great, but the driver disk supplied contains no drivers for Windows XP x64 Edition or Windows Vista. A compatible driver is available from [...], though you need to search for the PSR-295 keyboard USB - MIDI driver and use that.

Really pleased with the midi interface, use it with a Yamaha keyboard and cubebase.
thought worth paying more to keep same and not had any problems.
Found best to keep connected to computer all times otherwise have to put cd start up in every time which became annoying.
