5.0 out of 5 stars Yamaha Pocketrak 29 Oct 2011
This is a remarkable piece of equipment. One seldom finds apparatus that does everything it claims to do: this one does. Neat, compact, amazingly light, it records faithfully in a variety of different environments and conditions. Pocketrak is easy to operate and delivers remarkably good results. I had some reservations at the idea of buying a piece of kit that I had not tried out, but in this case if fulfilled all my most optimistic expecations. A credit to Yamaha.

5.0 out of 5 stars Working well for me. 7 July 2012

This is my first digital recorder. I DJ and wanted a way of recording my sets easily and with a small and compact device. This was recommended to me and so far I have recorded three DJ sets which have all come out in amazing quality.
After a quick flick through the included instructions I was recording straight away. I went out and about and recorded traffic and nature sounds using the built in mic as a test, and these came out sounding fantastic. The big test came when I wanted to record my DJ sets in a club environment. Plugging in and setting the input to line, I was ready to go. One thing I'm finding (and maybe I'm missing something) is that it SEEMS you have to set the record level (when line recording) by adjusting the source volume. I did notice that when recording that the peak indicator on the Yamaha was sometimes blinking a lot. I was therefore expecting to discover a distorted recording but this was not the case. It sounded clear without any glitches at all. (I tested this twice, once with the Auto Level on and once with it off, and the results seemed the same.)
Once the recording is made, you can either check by using the in-built speaker or plugging headphones into the device. And transferring recordings to a computer (I use a Mac) is simply a case of plugging in the built in USB and dragging the files across. The housing surrounding the retractable USB does feel a bit flimsy but with care, I can't see this being a problem.
The in-built 2bg memory is easily upgradeable via Micro SD, and the battery life seems fantastic - my recordings have totalled over ten hours yet the battery indicator is almost full.
It would have been nice to have had a little case or protective sleeve to keep this in, but I used a spare fabric sunglasses case which is doing the job.
All in all, I'm very impressed with this and would highly recommend.

I will just say one thing, when I checked out the street recordings (just walking around and recording traffic, noises, etc.)I made at 96KHz, I was truly amazed with the astonishing quality of this little fella.Perfect if you want to do recordings on the go, not knowing when the sound you want is going to come. Just put it in your pocket, forget you have it, and when you need it, it will do its job!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceleltn stereo recorder 18 Sep 2012
Verified Purchase
I've made a handful of recordings in the 3-4 weeks I've had this and I have to say Ia m bowled over at the quality of recoriding. The stereo mic is exceleltn at picking up voice and other recordings even at > 10m distance.

It is very compact compared to my last Sony recorder and the mic stand clip is excellent to.
Taking recordings off it is easy as the slide out USB conenctor plugs into your PC/alsptop and files are simply dragged off from a file manager window.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great 22 Aug 2012

Light, easy to use, good battery life and recordings sound great with built in microphones as well as with an external microphone. The filing system is not the best and a bit fiddly but transfer is quick and easy with the built in USB.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pocketrak C24 3 Mar 2013

Well, having had the Pocketrak 2G before, this compares very well with the 2G, recording quality is excellent. The only downside as far as I could see is not having a rechargeable facility and having to rely upon manually inserted batteries.
Also one is required to purchase accessories like a protective case, unlike the 2G which came with one.
It is for these reasons it loses a star

5.0 out of 5 stars Neat & Tidy 13 Sep 2012

Lovely little piece of kit & great for recording my DJ club sets. 13 hours plus recording time on the internal memory at 320kbps mp3's...that's great, & it's expandable with a micro SD card.
I looked at the Tascam 08 & 05 before i decided to go with this and chose this because of the looks, functionality, long battery life & recording time, price and mostly for the fact that it has a built in USB plug for easy connection to the PC for transferring files.
Folders & filenames were a bit confusing but after reading the manual & playing with it at the same time it was all clear within minutes.
The only thing i have to say i find trouble with is the size of the text in the display. I have trouble reading it as it's very small but thats partly down to my eyesight failing me. Looks like i might need BIG glasses!
Love this recorder though.

Amazing little unit. Hard to see some controls as they are underneath or on the sides. Not easy to use in dark theatres!
