I already own a professional stage piano from Yamaha - but it's heavy and needs monitors and power amps to get any sound out of it. This means at least a half hour set-up just to practice. Time to make life easy and buy a practice keyboard that isn't the weight of a small car and has at least a modicum of piano feel on the keyboard and all on a tight budget. I was prepared to spend up to 200 pounds, but after reading all the reviews I decided on theYamaha PSRE223. It arrived well packaged and in good order.

Getting started could not have been easier - out of the box and plug it in - it defaults to a concert grand piano sound. After having spend a lifetime playing grand pianos and professional concert electric pianos I was blown away by the sound this small keyboard produced. This is how far electronic pianos have moved on since I last bought a keyboard over 15 years ago. The sound is amazing from such a lightweight inexpensive box.

The keyboard feel is a little light - you can sometimes sound another note with an accidental brush of the keyboard with a loose finger, but considering the quality of sound produced for the budget, this is a minor quibble. For a portable lightweight keyboard that you can use every day without hassle, I think this product is brilliant value for money. It does what it says on the box, nothing more and certainly nothing less. Yamaha PSRE223 Portable Digital Keyboard Including Mains Adaptor

Roll over Beethoven 17 Mar 2011
By Mr. S. J. Morawiec TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
My wife purchased this item for me in June 2010 and whilst I acknowledge that there are in-built lessons, I found these difficult to follow. I then discovered the Complete keyboard player books and after a bit of playing around with those I finally plucked up courage and now at age 55, I am taking piano lessons.

What is good about this keyboard, well actually all of it, ignoring the in-built lessons. It is responsive with a positive feedback from the keys, but you should not expect it to match the feedback that you would get from a PIANO keyboard, nor does volume increase the harder that you press the keys: who cares though if you are a beginnner like me! The tone, particularly for the piano is excellent and does indeed sound like the real thing. The speakers are not fantstic, but up to the standard of the job, although I find using a reasonable set of padded headphones is much better overall, both for me and my poor family who have listened to me playing and have no hesitation to remind me to use them when I get carried away.

There are so many voices etc, more than enough for me. You can also use the transpose function to allow you access to more of the scale should you need it, but I would suggest that if you are proficient enough to need this function, you will have outgrown this keyboard and may need something a little better, although if space or cost is a consideration, then perhaps not.

As an absolute beginner this item is great, it is light and relatively compact, easy to store or to travel with you if you wish and of course, not every home can accommodate a piano. For a little over £100, this is the ideal starting point, particularly if you are looking for a keyboard to determine whether this instrument is for you, or if you are on a limited budget and simply want to play. I absolutely love mine and once you discount the gimmicky training aids and get down to using it, it is very good and more importanly, good value at the price.

Suffice to say, I am working now towards my grade 1 so it is ideal for us beginners and perfect at the price for a child to start with.
