  • Product Description

The ideal solution for anyone who needs a compact, stylish and portable piano-style keyboard with superb sound quality and great features. The NP-31 is a truly portable piano-style keyboard, perfect for use in a wide variety of situations. With Yamahas Graded Soft Touch keyboard, the lower keys are heavier in touch and the higher keys are lighter, just as on an actual piano, whilst retaining the softer touch of a digital keyboard. Advanced Wave Memory stereo sampling is a system which uses sound wave data that mirrors the tone and eXpression of the original instrument using advanced digital technologies. It creates a rich and eXpressivesound by using multiple waveforms. This instrument uses highly efficient amplifiers that create a poweful, natural sound from a compact speaker system. An ultra-realistic piano sound together with a selection of other instrument voices, controlled through an eXpressive touch-sensitive keyboard. combine two voices together e.g. piano and strings for greater versatility. The NP-31 comes with a new eco-friendly function that turns off the power automatically if the keyboard has not been used for a set amount of time. Slim, light & compact design Graded Soft Touch keyboard Advanced Wave Memory AWM stereo sampling Built-in stereo speaker system Battery power or AC adaptor Auto Power Off mode

5.0 out of 5 stars Much better than a "home keyboard" 1 April 2012
I'm a song writing and home recording hobbyist and most of my stuff is guitar based. For several years I'd used a keyboard to add colour and harmony to some of my songs. I had a 61 key home keyboard with about 400 voices on it. It recently became more or less defunct and I was faced with a decision about replacing it: should I choose like-for-like or go down the digital piano route?
Well I've opted for the latter, so is it worth the sacrifice of about 390 voices and auto accompaniment? My answer is yes, definitely. The problem with the type of keyboard that I had, for all its versatility, is that it's diffcult to get really authentic sounds. Unless you go really top-end and expensive, home keyboards tend to sound , well, like home keyboards (surprise, surprise) and all too often a bit naff: they're as much for playing around on as really playing. Now my keyboard playing skills are fairly rudimentary and I have no pretensions to professional standards. However I think the NP31 would even suit a professional (Jamie Cullum hasn't been ashamed to be associated with it.) It is an authentic instrument and I think that's the difference with what I had before. It may not physically feel exactly like an acoustic piano but it sounds close enough to really make no difference as far as most ears would be concerned. The extra keys, too, add so much more freedom and depth. I've only just got this thing but I've already been moved to write a song ON it ABOUT it (entitled "Playing my Piano".) I can see myself spending a lot of time with the NP31 and basing a lot of my music around it. It is great value, too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Keyboard for beginers 9 Feb 2012
I took a bit of a risk when buying the Yamaha NP31 as I had never seen or played one before. I used the review feedback which was mostly positive. As a novice player the NP31 is ideal. It doesn't take up much room and the quality is excellent if played through headphones which I do. The built in speakers are not good compared to the headphones, being rather harsh. Other than this the unit is very good and I have no regrets at all. It's a nice keyboard to play and I look forward to many hours stroking it's pretend ivory.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, so like a real piano 7 Nov 2011

purchased for my young daughter to practice the piano, it is amazing - lightweight, you can clear it away easily when it is not needed. The sound is clear and the tone is very like a piano.

To date, I cannot fault this keyboard. The sampled sounds are good, and it stands as an excellent keyboard for a starter instrument, if not for intermediate keyboard players.
