In-line remote/mic optimized for Apple devices - Control at your fingertips

The PRO Series offer an in-line remote/microphone on the 4-foot cable that is optimized for use with Apple devices. It enables intuitive control while listening to music – such as pause/play, skip to the next song, or skip to the beginning of a song – and the ability to answer/end phone calls. The built in microphone allows you to answer calls on the go and the microphone also works for Android devices so everyone can benefit.

Fuel-Injected Design

Drawing inspiration from the world’s finest musical instruments and motorcycles, the PRO Series headphones get your heart racing before you even plug them in. Gorgeous geometry and ultra-clean design curves are matched with premium color and finish materials, then emblazoned boldly with Yamaha’s iconic tuning-fork marque.

High-performance cable

PRO Series cables are flat, tangle-resistant and made from a material that is both durable and designed to reduce “touch noise” transfer effects. The flat construction separates the internal cores to minimize interference and the 4-ft. cable terminates to an L-type connector, allowing for low-profile connection to mobile devices.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I really like using these headphones. They sound brilliant.
They remind me of the Sennheiser HD 25-1 II Closed Headphone for ENG/DJ use with split headband, 1.5m steel cable/70 ohms right angle.

The sound is wonderfully natural. Punchy, clear and the soundstage is stunning.

I am not the world's biggest fan of white coloured headphones but i think the black version looks sublime.
The cable design too is somewhat unique. it is a flat style cable. Interestingly i have found that this tends to get stuck in less places and is way less prone to getting tangled.
Good work Yamaha.

In more detail the sound quality is seriously good.
I realise how much these headphones cost but I think they represent good value acoustically speaking. I think Yamaha spent a long time perfecting the Audio gold that these are. Perhaps if I was being super picky they can be a little bit bass heavy.
They handled Bonobo's Cirrus so well though I am willing to forgive the bass heaviness. As I have said the soundstage is phenomenal. I can talk by Two Door Cinema club was handled equally well! Only one minute to midnight by Justice really took these headphones out of their comfort zone. At 'max' volume there was noticeable distortion But again I can forgive it for that.

So why I head you cry did I only give these sonically sound headphones 4 stars?
Because the actual fit of these headphones is quite bad.
I have a very big head, but I was surprised to find that these are too big. By a lot. There is no way to make them fit properly.
Everyone who tries them on says the same. I do not know what giants Yamaha was expecting to wear these but I am afraid I know none.
Not really sure what I should say to that?

I believe the 400s have the same audio 'innards' as the 500s, so I saved there. They come beautifully boxed with all the attention to detail that unboxing ceremony you get on high-end purchases these days, the experience starts there.

For me, when I popped them on, they sounded normal and pretty similar to my 17 over-ear Sennheisers. Then as I explored more music I realised that music sounds as it was produced, i.e. music produced without depth sounds that way. The headphones don't try to colour the sound or enhance it.

Some people have complained about the tight fit. Personally, this helped sell the product to me. I was trying to avoid noise-cancelling headphones due to the added bulk and just having to think about charging an all that.

We've all noticed that headphones sound way better when pushed against your head, and block out external noise, so the thought that these clamp on my ears was a good thing for me.

I have a narrow head and small ears: they are comfortable on me even after hours. In fact I wear 'phones for 8 hours a day 5 days a week, and have done for a decade or more (computer programmer). I even wear them for hours without music playing, just to focus me and prevent people trying to talk to me! Years of working in open-plan offices mean I still do this when working at home!

I have had these over 2 weeks now and they're comfortable on my head with the only minor complaint being that, like with new glasses, I had to get used to a new pressure point. There's a really subtle sensation on the top of my head, though I hardly feel it now and in another two weeks I bet it'll be gone.

These headphones are very good. They are extremely balanced so that the audio doesn't have that stupid EQ that a lot of headphones have. People keep buying the Beats Audio headphones which sound really boomy and have extremely poor definition when it comes to bass frequencies. I tried out a lot of headphones and found these (back to talking about the pro400's lol) to be the best. My main comparison track was Charles Mingus' "Moanin'". I chose this track because it covers a lot of different frequencies but most importantly I know that a lot of headphones and speakers/monitors can't give the double bass any note definition. With almost all the headphones I tried, you could hear there was a bass in the mix. Although only an extremely small amount had enough definition as to allow you to hear what specific notes were being played. These headphones also allowed me to hear the buzz that you can get between the string and the fingerboard; I was very impressed, and yes I play the double bass lol.

They're very comfortable, I like the way they look, I don't think I could live without the iPod controller (which also works when plugged straight into my MacBook Pro), it's great being able to unplug the lead directly from the headphones, they can climb to a very high volume, and the isolation is great.

Two issues: I have a slightly over-average sized head (my hat size is 60.6 cm) yet I wear them on their smallest setting. I think you'll have issues if your head is any smaller than mine. Bearing in mind that my hat size doesn't measure the distance from ear to ear via the top of my head.

The other issue is that the ear-pieces kept separating from the plastic shells; therefore falling on the floor.
