The safe is very solid with hinge side reinforcement. It would take a lot of effort to get into this safe. Features time lock and lock down periods and also one time codes for guests. It also has an external battery terminal under the handle to allow a 9V to be connected should the batteries die. It also has a silent feature so people can't tell how many digits you are keying.

The "manual" is rubbish. Just a few illustrations and no explanatory text. Luckily the basic operation is all pretty simple. To set a code you press the memory button and it beeps. Then type out your desired code (up to 12 digits!) and then press the memory button again. It then beeps and then flashes up the code you entered so you can check it. I did a couple of dry runs with the door open before locking it shut for the first time.

It has a scramble feature that allows you to hide your code within longer sequences, but the instructions as so bad I dare not try it!

One thing that is not obvious is how you enter the code back in. The button fascia is completely blank once you lock at the safe. I found you have to press and hold on the fascia for a couple of seconds to activate it. This is also not in the manual. Took me a few anxious moments of pressing and swiping the first time.

The manual doesn't even tell you what size drill bit you need for the huge rawl plugs it comes supplied with. You need a 10mm.

We've had this safe for about 3 months and use it regularly. I found its' size, capacity and weight are just right for use in the home. Although it's a fair old weight, I could move it around myself and install it without too much effort. The instructions are pictorial and it's easy to mess up whilst installing the batteries (they are common AA size) and setting up the code. Don't do what I did and close the door too soon. If you do and can't then open it don't worry. A call to Yale's helpline and a very helpful guy talked me through opening it up again. It's not a huge capacity but with a bit of careful organizing, my wife and I were able to get our important documents, jewelery and some spare euros and a bit of cash into the safe. Don't expect to fit too much into it. It won't take my laptop. We quickly became used to using the electronic keypad. I needs a touch with a couple of fingers to turn it on. This causes the keypad to light up. When you have entered your code number you must press the 'key' symbol before it will unlock. The door is hung on the right hand side, when viewed from the front and this cannot be changed.
It has fixings for screwing it down to the floor but not to a wall. The fixings provided need a 12mm hole drilling about 7cm deep into a concrete floor. Luckily I had the required masonry bit and electric drill to hand.
The added comfort with this safe is the knowledge that it is fire resistant, although I hope this feature never comes to be tested.

Bought this to keep the few valuable possessions we have safely locked away. I have to say, it is a joy to use - if Steve Jobs designed a safe, it might look or work like this (too strong?). Beautiful keypad and easy to use.

This is an excellent and well constructed safe. Instructions could be better but after a couple of reads (mainly symbols) operation is a doddle. My only reservation, hence the loss of a star, is the safe can only be fixed to the floor by two holes (kinetic design not considered?). A wall fixing option would gain the extra star but this may not be an issue for you.

This product looks good and is nice and heavy which would delay any thief in walking away with it. The only problem is that the instructions are not clear and DO NOT lock this on purchase... Im still awaiting to figure out how to re open this!

It is a great product once you have it set up. Ideal for documents and valuables. however, DONT RUSH TO CLOSE THE DOOR BEFORE HAVING SET UP THE CODE. It locks automatically and you cant open it, and most importantly you dont have the code to open it again as you havent set it up. The customer service was really helpful and responsive to solve that, but I recommend calling them not emailing them.

Two stars for this as it arrived damaged. The thing is it had been dropped and had a significant dent in the top right corner - literally on the corner ... and had then been packed complete with dent ! This must have been done during manufacture unless the item had been repacked so it not a good indication of Yale's quality control given the size of the dent !

In terms of protection I was under the impression from many websites that this safe is rated at £2000 cash. Amazon don't show a rating for anything other than fire protection so beware, it is only rated at £1000 cash and as a result not going to be as solid as it (does) feel.

As others have said the instructions are rubbish but the unit is not difficult to use and a quick look at Youtube reveals all :)

GIven the lack of the cash rating I believed this had I would not have kept it - my mistake to be fair as Yale clearly say £1000 but I stupidly relied on other sites specs. Maybe Yale have downgraded the specification recently. Nowhere on the documentation with it does it say a rating for money which is poor.

Space wise it is like many other 'small' safes as opposed to medium but I think would be OK for most people. The screw bolts supplied were comprehensive too so fixing to the floor would be easy.

Overall I can't rate something highly that the manufacturer sees fit to pack knowing it was damaged - and as a result will look elsewhere. You can get £2000 rated safes for the price of this so though - if undamaged - it appears well made I see no reason not to get one that is rated as more secure.
