I'm not sorry I bought Yakuza Moon, although I do agree with the authoress at the end: it is poorly written. The writing doesn't flow, the characters were often underdeveloped and underused and her style is beyond stilted. However, this is an autobiography and I really do believe that every event in it is true and unembellished. In that respect, anyone interested in the journey of a girl who loses everything time and time again - indeed, up to almost losing her life - should give this a try. But don't come to this expecting great prose.
Often failing to engage the reader, often falling short of truly depicting the horror she has survived through, perhaps this is the metaphorical drug Shoko Tendo needs to kick before she can mature into a successful writer. So far, she hasn't quite gotten there.
