Awesome Mp3 Player,
By A Customer
This review is from: Yakumo Hypersound 256 MP3 USB Memory Stick 256MB (Electronics)
After reading about all of the problems with Yakumo's previous model(Hypersound 128 MP3 Player 128MB), I was a little hesitant about purchasing an unreviewed product from a less well-known company. However, after I downloaded the manual for this product from Yakumo's main webpage, it didn't seem like much could go wrong. So, I threw caution to the wind and purchased this model. First off, all of the compatibility issues with Windows XP mentioned in regards to the previous model are non-existent here(guess Yakumo must have fixed the problem). After receiving the item, I was literally listening to music on the player in less than 2 minutes. I have subsequently used the player whilst working out and for a solid day thereafter and have found very little wrong with it. There are only two minor flaws that I found. While the neck strap with accompanying headphones is ideal for exercise(in that it isn't so long that it gets in the way), the headphone length is a little on the short side. Additionally, the lack of an LCD screen is a bit annoying at times, but in most cases an LCD screen drastically reduces the battery life, so I think it is a fair trade off since this player can last 15 hours on a single AAA battery. This issues are overshadowed by the rest of the available features. Support of directories makes it easy to arrange your music the way you want, however keep in mind that the songs in the top most directory are played first(i.e . directory "A" or "1" would play before directory "B" or "2") and the same rule applies to song titles as well. Additionally, other Mp3 players only support wma format or mp3's of 128kpbs or less, but with this player, you can put songs up to 320kpbs quality if you wish to or use it as a jump drive to store large files you need to transport. The equaliser settings are good and there are no issues with the level of volume. However, if you wish to get a better bass response, higher quality headphones are needed. All-in-all, the minor flaws are not enough to knock this from 5 stars simply because it is not likely you will find a better Mp3 player with 256MB's of storage for the price.

Highly recommended!,

Yakumo is not a manufacturer that I had heard of before, but having read a couple of reviews here, it seemed to have received praise from a number of users. There are no moving parts, so there is very little to go wrong. I wanted a small, light and inexpensive MP3 player with a decent capacity for a daily half hour walk each way from the office. I will never be using it for anything else except to 'walk and listen'.At the time of writing, I have had this product for about a week. It has worked faultlessly and does everything I expected it too. It is very compact, and the case has a slightly 'rubberised' feel to it. I did not like the headphones supplied, purely for personal preference reasons, and use a pair of ear buds instead. It uses an AAA battery, which seems to be long lasting (probably helped by no backlit screen etc.) and you can use rechargeable. There is a button-operated equaliser, which seems to perform well. The sound is very good, and may be improved by better headphones. Transferring data is easy with the USB connection. My operating system is Windows XP, so I have not needed to install the supplied software/drivers. In conclusion, I have found this to be a very easy to use product. It does what it is supposed to do with minimum fuss. It may be basic, but you get 256MB for your money, so this is very good value. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a simple, portable and compact player.

A real bargain,

The device itself is great, it looks very sporty with a nice rubber feel to it. Size wise its just a little bigger than a disposable lighter. I currently have 140 songs on it saved at 64kb WMA format which is CD quality and by all accounts no different than the 128kb MP3 format. I use Windows XP and it is just a case of pulling off the top and plugging it into a USB port. With in seconds it will be displayed as another drive. It does also come with a USB cable in so you don have to reach around the back of your PC if you don't have front USB ports. I would highly recommend this device for a cheap decent player.
