A beautiful book by Madonna with lovely illustrations.Based on a traditional story from the Ukraine , Yakov tries to find a way to cure his sick child. He asks for the help of the wise man of the village who proves that when we are unselfish , miracles can happen.I have read it to my class of 9 year olds and have also used it in assembly.A touching story which brings across moral issues.
A must for all teachers and parents.

This is Madonna's 3rd children's book and like the 1st two in the series, the story has an old fashioned theme of "doing good".

The book has incredible artwork and is beautiful just to look at!

As with Madonna's other kid's books the stories remind you of the sort of fables you read as a child yourself - the stories are lovely and I'm sure plenty of older Madonna fans will be getting this book for themselves rather than for their children!

Why are people so one-dimensional in their thinking? I must admit to being heartily sick of reading negative reviews of Madonna's kids stories which dwell on Madonna herself rather than the books. Madonna the Recording Artist and Madonna the Children's Author are two entirely separate entities. As for Madonna the Person, well none of us know her (or have even met her, I dare say) so we're not qualified to judge... and who was it who said the traits we criticise in others are always those we most dislike about ourselves? Wise words indeed.

Like a lot of people, I bought this book because I am a Madonna fan, and I can't really comment on how absorbing the story is, being around thirty years older than its target audience. However, what I can say is that Madonna's writing is at the very least competent, the 'moral' of the story is an important and worthwhile one, and I find it difficult to imagine any child being less than delighted with the beautiful illustrations. Review the BOOK, not Madonna herself.
