Product Description

Product Description

We were at the end of our 20s and we were done being backpackers. Inspired by James Michener's Return to Paradise, we sought out adventure on the high and low seas. What we found will amaze you. From corrupt officials, uninhabited volcano islands, cannibals in India, dodging gigantic ships in the Straits of Malacca, storms and wrecks, Aussies and Kiwis, to the exotic sex trade of Phuket, and much more. This is a story of figuring it out as you go along and not being afraid to jump and see where you land.

Badly written, and I cant help feeling the book is simply a ruse to pay for the journey. Well. I only bought the kindle version at least so I guess one beer for trying is ok!

2.0 out of 5 stars Nearly 3* 31 Jan 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I agree with one of the other reviewers comments. In my opinion what was achieved here deserves a better write-up, the book doesn’t do it justice . The chapters don’t seem to flow and at times seem dis-jointed and sketchy. There is a general lack of depth and continuity which makes it feel more like your reading extracts from a diary.
Re-worked this could be an excellent account, but in this format - 2.5*, sorry.

Poorly written, gives no sense of being part of the adventure. Just a litany of breakdowns and spare parts purchases.Maps would have been very helpful

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great read! 21 Oct 2012

I've always wanted to go on a sailing adventure and after reading this book I'm hooked! Bought this book this morning and finished it tonight-- couldn't put it down! For anyone who's cooped up in an office all day like I am, reading this book is your escape to paradise. I highly recommend this book to anyone who's interested in sailing, or even to anyone who likes a good adventure on the high seas.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great adventure stories 27 Feb 2013

I really enjoyed reading the blog that Adam and Ian kept while they learned how to sail, bought a boat and then set out for the great unknown. I absolutely hate being on boats but it still made me pretty jealous for the adventures that they had in a relatively short amount of time. Adam and Ian had just the the right mix of throwing caution to the wind and preparing for the task at hand so you feel like something could go horribly wrong but not so much that you don't grow to like the guys as you read.

Overall, the book reads like a blog so don't approach it hoping for polished prose, but it's super entertaining and I couldn't put it down for a couple of days. Good read.
3.0 out of 5 stars Lucky they survived! 9 Feb 2013

I am reading this book wondering how these young men got enough money to buy a boat (must have rich parents) and hope they continue to sail on. It was a long read because the story was not that interesting and it seemed like it was more about fixing the boat then sailing but they had some nice pictures. Don't really know what became of them the book kind of ends abruptly like they figured it was long enough to sell and quit writing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Just a collection of blog posts 9 Mar 2013

These guys had an interesting trip, but did most certainly did not sail around the world. Just up into SE Asia ( which is not a bad effort just not quite as impressive as going the whole way as the title implies). The book itself is just a collection of blog posts they wrote along the way, which you can probably find online if you want to search for them. There are much better written and more extensive books on sailing trips out there.
