If you're not aware of the concept behind this regular yearly release, in a nutshell it's Armin van Buuren's selection of the finest/most popular tunes to have been played on his 'A State of Trance' radio show throughout the year, all edited into very short formats and mixed into one big continuous 'megamix'.
This idea is very simple, yet has truly amazing results. The track selection and ordering is, as always with van Buuren, spot on. The real delight, however, comes with the mixing; small samples of past tracks subtly re-introduced into the mix, and the layering of vocals of one track onto the next with perfection, you can't help but smile at the creativity and technical work that Armin puts in.
If you have heard previous Year Mixes (2004-2007), you'll know what I'm talking about. As with all the previous installments, it is an absolute joy to listen to, and in my opinion this is the best yet. When will Armin put a foot wrong?

A great mix of tunes that when worked in together provide a fantast melange of lights, darks, mellows and highs. Good work Armin, looking forward to acquiring much more in the future.

Best mix compilation of 2008!

Wow! I downloaded the mix off his radio show last week and it is incredible. Usually I break the tracks up with some software so I can change to each song (it comes in a continuos mix otherwise) faster. But, this mix is so good there's no need to break up the tracks! Each song is a portion of the best part of that song. I am buying this CD to support Armin for his hard work and I want it for my collection. It's unbelieveable how hard he works to put this mix together. On his State of Trance 2007 broadcast last year he mentioned the mix takes up to 2 months to complete with over 2000 edits. I am sure this one took the same amount of time and effort. Truly amazing how he does it. Get this if you can. It's the best mix of the year by far!

a completely different listening experience for trance fans

You listen to endless trance albums and love the hills and valleys that songs take you on. i personally love songs that are between 6 to 8 minutes and didnt know if i would like this but its amazing. its something you dont hear done well. mixing all these so well under 2 minutes for most songs is amazing. if you like Armin this is a great snapshot of the types of songs he likes to mix. the other volumes are just as good too.
