This is a brilliant camera but does need mains power for the actual camera and broadband. I'm not sure there are any similar devices that would work with no power to the building. If you are worried about thieves then by the time they see, work out what this is and disable it you would have been sent an image.

Hi Matthew P. (1)HomeMonitor HD cameras can only be set via its software settings. So things are limited. (2)However, I've just looked into the settings page on one of my cameras. There is a choice between High Quality and Standard Quality (for Video Archive and LiveView) modes. Yet it doesn't specify MBPS per each mode. If 0.5mbps recommendation is for Standard Mode, then I probably agree with John (previous answer). Just a logical thought. Google/Yahoo search: How much bandwidth does Skype need? You will see that a minimum bandwidth requires is 0.3, 0.5 for high quality and 1.5 for HD. I truly believe that Standard Quality recording/live view might be able to work with your 0.3 upload limit...as long as there isn't any other traffic and you truly do have a solid 0.3mbps upload speed. It is worth giving it a try, if this is the only or best option for your security goals.

No. The camera has no loudspeaker facilities. The dog will stay on the sofa and the intruder will not perform a dance.
