This book is brilliantly paced, giving you a taste early on of what's to come without giving up too much too soon and is gripping from start to finish. On both occasions I found it hard to put down!
In an age where vampires have becoming nothing more than petulant, brooding, adolescent fodder come and discover what vampires should REALLY be like!!
I wont go into too much detail, but let's just say it's a Classic Vampire tale mixed with modern vampire tales such as The Strain (which is on TV).
Reading this, I can tell you that it seems the creators of The Strain borrowed a lot of the concept from this, and I can tell you that not only is this better written than that, it has more of everything - better characters and villains, plot and more traditional in it's scope.
Superb gripping intricate tale which I read in a few days!
Sadly that wasn't the case, the first 200 pages or so we're good, but from then I found it a struggle. It became a bit slow moving at times and there seemed to be chapters here and there that didn't really need to be in the story at all.
I'll definit be checking more out by McCammon because like I said I enjoyed the previous two I read (boys life and swan song) so it's highly likely I'll enjoy others. Just not this one.

Forget Anne Rice, this is possibly the greatest vampire novel ever written (along with Dracula and Salem's Lot). Don't let the lurid, pulpy cover put you off.Published 7 months ago by E. Williamson
