External Housing Enabling the Y-Cam Knight, White or Black Models to be Mounted Outside. Includes Universal Bracket. This external housing enables either the Y-cam White, Black or Knight to be mounted outside, it is built from carefully specified materials to minimize signal attenuation. The mounting bracket is universal allowing the camera to be orientated in the desired direction and is semi-cable managed allowing the power and, if necessary, the Ethernet cable to be routed to the camera.

I have long used a number of IP cameras including the Y-Cam Black models with IR night lighting. In order to extend the scope of our system I purchased this item and have been disappointed ever since for the following reasons:
* as per other reviews, it is huge. If you drive a Hummer and subtlety isn't you're thing, the Y-cam case is just fine.
* IR vision doesn't work. The IR lighting simple relfects off the inside of the housing's plastic lens and obscures any light that may be coming in from the range you want to look at
* the cables supplied are far too short for an esternal mounting. If you have a standard brick cavity wall, your cables will have to connect up in a damp environment leading to inevitable corrosion
* the clam case effectively dampens any Wi-Fi signal making a wired connection the only realistic option.
* as per other reviews, the construction is solid but does not justify the price.
The Y-Cam black itself is fine and easy to use. This product renders it useless and should, in my experienced opinion be avoided

Amazon Verified Purchase
While the Y-Cam's shape (relatively large square front, but small depth) is OK indoors - it is a problem finding 3-rd party external housing to mount it outdoors - so you probably want the official one. However, as you can see, it is round, not square and relatively long - so don't let the picture deceive you, this thing is huge!
If you want to have a "mean looking" camera - this one's for you! I can't help thinking the shape of the housing could have complemented the camera's shape and thus be somewhat smaller?
Considering it is just plastic - although good quality - I think it's too expensive; good quality external housings cost quite a bit less - though probably won't fit the Y-Cam.
The cables are pretty short, approx 1.2m? Considering they go inside the case, require a bit of slack outside (in case you want to rotate it later) go through the wall and be a reasonable length inside the house that is too short! Even with the hole next to the leg I'm left with less than 10cm cable inside - forget about routing it inside or outside.
While swapping the Ethernet cable to a longer one is quite easy and making your own power cable not hard (with some soldering skills), I do think they could have included 2-3m cables considering the cost.

This is a good quality unit. It's been fine so far for me.
The only downsize is the size of the unit which is large. It has to be an not an issue for me as I've put this up high and hidden away.
