He must work at her bizarre wish-granting shop until he can pay off his own wish: to be free of the spirits that haunt him. This book is listed a few times on amazon. XxxHolic: v. 5 (currently out of stock) is the English version sold by amazon. This version (Xxxholic Vol.5) is the English version sold by other sellers. All the rest are in different languages. Be sure to buy the correct book!
xxxHolic volume 5 contains chapters 27 to 32 plus translation notes.

Watanuki Kimihiro is a teenage boy who has the power to see spirits (yokai and ayakashi) but he would do anything to get rid of this power. One day he comes across a small mysterious shop and is forcefully dragged inside. The shop apparently grants wishes and the shopkeeper, Yuko Ichihara, tells him that she can get rid of those powers for him. But for a price. He has to work for Yuko as a part-time employee. His job is mainly small household chores and errands, it's not as easy as it sounds though as some of these errands involve the spirit world.
xxxHolic occasionally crosses over with another CLAMP manga, Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle. Reading Tsubasa helps understand xxxHolic more and a couple of chapters don't make much sense without at least knowing the Tsubasa storyline but it isn't essential. All 28 volumes of Tsubasa are available to buy in English.
In volume 5, we meet an Ame-Warashi or a rain maker in English. Watanuki saves a child who seems like she is stuck in some hydrangeas. He also gets a new pet in the form of a pipe-fox and we learn more about Maru and Moro. There is also a girl with wings and Zashiki-Warashi returns!
Another great volume! The art is amazing as always and Yuko looks very dashing on the cover!
Some unexpected things happen in volume 5. I read it in one sitting because I couldn't put it down.
I'll recommend this book to all CLAMP and xxxHolic fans but be sure to read the previous volumes first so you get a better understanding of the characters.

Xxxcholic has always been a wonderful source for learning about Japanese Mythlogy. The wonderful apperance of the cute pipe fox has to be one of my favorite bits. ^_^ this series just gets better and better.

Just got my issue of xxxHolic #5 in the mail and all I can say is "Wow!". Not only do we get more well written stand alone supernatural stories with subtle character developments, we are also treated to a HUGE leap forward in the xxxHolic story with the biggest suprise this series has revealded and I never would have guessed: There's a bad guy!
What started out as the usual strange ghost/monster/spirit storyline turned into something much larger (maybe global?) that is literally eating people's souls and what's more, we see Yuko take a stand and use her powers to fight what the villian is doing and add extra meaning to all those butterflies we see in all the previous xxxHolic pictures (go ahead, have a look! No we know what they are... kind of).
There's also a subtle piece of info regarding the black Mokona (he has two stomaches!) and a crossover with CLAMP's other new work Legal Drug #2 as well as lots of talk and some mailing of a gift to the Tsubasa team and some Valentine's Day vengeance!
Great art. Suprising story. Buy it now. Seriously. This series rocks!

CLAMP, xxxHolic vol. 5 (Del Rey, 2005)
There's something about the fifth volume of xxxHolic that seems to encourage lawlessness. My library's copies walked off, so I had to get it Interlibrary Loan, and the copy I received had a few pages that had been expertly sliced out. Go figure. CLAMP really seem to have gotten into this one in the past few episodes, as they follow up the twin-sister episode with some real crackers here. All the wackniess of the Valentine's Day hijinks in volume 4 come back to haunt Watanuki in spades (what does one give a girl who doesn't really exist on White Day?), while the episodic stories continue on as strong as they were in the last volume. Series is starting to get good. ***
