xxxHolic is definitely one of my favourite of all of CLAMP's series.
The story revolves around Kimihiro Watanuki, who can see ghosts/spirits. One day he meets the space time witch Yuko, who claims she can cure him of his 'curse'. As Watanuki soon discovers though, Yuko grants nothing for free. He thus agrees to work for her until he can pay the price of his wish, and only then will she cure him of his ability... Chapter plots include customers who come to Yuko with their own wishes. Some of these stories are really chilling; both the problems they have as well as the price some of them end up paying... Watanuki also always features, even in the stories that are more about Yuko's customers. His own story also progresses as the series develops. The series on the whole isn't as sinister as it might sound though! It's actually quite light-hearted a lot of the time, even though the plot generally retains a dark edge. The supporting and main characters are very strong and well-defined. The artwork is really beautiful too. What else can I say but that I can't recommend this series enough! There's just something about it that really draws you in. I've definitely found myself liking the series more and more as it progresses!

Kimihiro Watanuki is a high school student who has been plagued by spirits for his entire life. After being chased by a spirit one day Watanuki stumbles upon a strange shop and its mysterious owner Yuuko. The shop sells wishes and Yuuko offers Watanuki the chance to get rid of the spirits that follow him but in return he must work in the shop in order to pay off the debt.
`xxxHolic' is the sister series of `Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles' and shows some of the same events of that series from a different perspective. This series is one of the few series that, despite their differences, I consider to be great in both its anime and manga versions. The series is great with interesting characters, a complicated but involving plot and some nice humour. It was also this series that introduced me to CLAMPs utterly beautiful art style. This first volume of the series sets things up nicely for the series, introducing the characters and the setting very well. The majority of the volume sees Watanuki and Yuuko dealing with the wishes of people who come to the shop and it ends with their first meeting with the characters from `Tsubasa'. The volume also includes translation notes, as well as information on some of the items shown in the volume. xxxHolic is a great series that, while not to everyone's tastes, is very enjoyable and is a must read for anyone reading `Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles'
