4.0 out of 5 stars A good quality fan with humidity sensor 3 Nov 2013
By K. BURTON TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Style Name:With Timer & Humidistat
I'm an electrician, and have fitted a number of these Xpelair DX100-series fans over the years. I personally think this 4" Xpelair DX100H humidistat version is generally a pretty good fan in terms of construction quality, extraction rate, noise levels, and its excellent waterproof rating (IPX5!) but the criticisms being levelled here (whilst perfectly valid) are fairly common with many fans of this type where the humidistat is located deep inside the fan - they can seemingly run-on forever if they're not properly set! The humidistat on this fan can be adjusted to trigger between 50% and 90% relative humidity (RH), but if you measure the RH even before you use a bath or shower, you'll find the ambient humidity in many homes is already in excess of 70% or even 80%! Once you can see steam, the air is already saturated and RH is >100%. Even once the steam is visibly removed, the RH is still well over the pre-set level and the fan rightly continues to run - even though it seems as if it should have already stopped. Therefore, the humidity control usually needs to be set very high (higher than the ambient moisture level, so typically >80%) to avoid false triggering and running on excessively. It also pays to ensure you have a back-draught shutter fitted to avoid cold damp air from outside the property blowing back up the duct/into the room/fan and triggering it needlessly.

Mr Kemp makes a good point about having an air duct around the sensor helping the sensor react more quickly to the humidity conditions, but I think such an idea would likely lower the water ingress rating (IPXX) compromising the "safe-to-use-in-all-zones" approval of this model (see IEE regulations for use of electrical products in bathrooms).

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Ventilated 26 Mar 2011
By blackie
Style Name:With Timer|Verified Purchase
Bought this extractor fan and found the installation straight forward as it was a replacement for an older product, the downside is that it did not fit the original mounting holes of its predessor.
The seller was reliable and the delivery was less than 1 week.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple extractor 13 Nov 2011
By Brian R. Martin TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Style Name:Standard|Verified Purchase
A straightforward, inexpensive simple extractor (other models have humidity detection and/or timer) from a well-known maker. It is easy to install following the clear instructions and has fittings for both window and wall installation included. It is reasonably quiet when running, and although not very powerful it has a satisfactory flow rate for small-volume rooms. The external draft shutter is a bit flimsy and would have been better in white rather than brown, but overall good value for money.

Only took a couple of days to arrive. Yes it is a full kit at a very reasonable price. Even has some sticky back tape to insulate any fan noise from where it connects the the ceiling. Tested the fan and there is no noise by the way. Plus a big rubber seal to fit around the fan nozzle to seal it to the extractor tube. Also a length of extractor tube as well just incase you need it. Full written instructions also. Oh and a packet of screws and rawl plugs. All thats missing (Only joking folks) is the little man to fit it. Thats for me to do. Should be a one for one swap with no issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Fan 5 Jan 2013
By Indy
Style Name:With Pull Cord Switch|Verified Purchase
Yes, it's just a bathroom fan & it does the job..... But, it does it's job really well & looks good. Being an Xpelair it's a name that can still be trusted & with the sealed for life motor/bearing will last even longer.
It runs quiet and extracts as it should, wiring was an easy job with it's clear internal labeling. It's a well made unit and comes with solid trunking which is extendable by way of one fitting inside the other (sleeve like) as apposed to collapsible, flexible trunking that some cheaper fans incorporate, oh, I bought it when on offer But, would pay the full price even if it wasn't. So that's it job done..... hopefully for many a year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little fan 16 Sep 2012
Style Name:With Timer|Verified Purchase
This is a very neat fan which we fitted in to the ceiling. The fan is linked to the light so comes on when the light is switched on. The fan is quite quiet but not silent if that is what you are looking for. Very impressed with it for the price and would definitely recommend.
