Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

"If you can get a record played by a breakbeat DJ, a house DJ and a trance DJ," said Sasha of the runaway clubland success of "Xpander", "you know you're making a record that's hitting the nail on the head." It was after hearing "Xpander" that the Chemical Brothers enlisted Sasha to remix their "Out Of Control" and, indeed, if there's a record that sums up better the serious prospects of trance--so often considered a joke genre--it's yet to be made. Xpander is fifty minutes of beautiful sobreity, a world away from the hackneyed euro-cheese that gives the genre a bad name, and while the title track offers some austere, choppy dancefloor thrills, it's the later excursions that take the EP back into the murkier realms of hard house on "Belfunk" and dark, psychedelic tech-trance on "Baja". Hardly surprising that Xpander was caned by DJs of every persuasion--here, Sasha has all bases covered comfortably. Essential. --Louis Pattison

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfection! 29 July 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I got this a year ago and it still blows me away now. Each track on it is in a league of its own, rendering all other records in its respective genre redundant. It seems to represent four different sides of the great man. Here are my interpretations: 1)Xpander = podium bunny 2)Belfunk = boogie monster 3)Rabbitweed = dark side of the Force 4)Baja = sunset dreamer (this should be prescribed on the NHS for insomniacs and the permanently stressed - it always sorts me out when I need to calm down)
In short, this EP is a true masterpiece which must be owned by anyone with the slightest appreciation for good music. BUY IT NOW OR ELSE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really rather good! 20 Oct 2003
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I bought this EP knowing only Xpander (which is one of my favourite tunes). I'm glad to say, the other 3 tracks are all a bit different and Sasha has not spat out the same formula over and over.
Xpander and Baja are the lighter, calmer tracks. If you close your eyes and there's no distractions, its off on a journey time!
Belfunk and Rabbitweed are the 'dirtier' tracks on the EP. At times almost mellow, moving through to heavier and darker beats.
There's a fair bit going on in the background of all tracks to listen for and they develop somewhat over the length of the track so you're not stuck listening to 10-11 mins of identical music.
Worth every penny just for the full 11m29 of Xpander alone; the others just so happen to be extras of a very high quality!
Don't wait, buy now!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Genre breaking... 19 Aug 2005
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Forget whether you're into trance, techno, chill-out, electronica/dance, Brian Eno or even Pink Floyd because this EP contains some superb tracks that defy such limiting categorisations. Featuring, in particular, two extended work-outs - Xpander & Baja - that convert waves of electronic sound into a genuinely exciting and reflective journey, this is a brilliant example of how to take an often boring and abused genre - "trance" - and turn it into something special. In the end there are only two types of music out there, good and bad... and on this record Sasha delivers some unforgettably good music.

5.0 out of 5 stars a brilliant masterpiece 25 Dec 2000
Format:Audio CD
It all started in my friend Conors car, we were set on the road, laidback, relaxed, and I was completely unaware of what was about to happen. Conor changed the music. I was about to become Xpanded. The anthem entered my mind for the first time. This track, Xpander, is an enthralling song that can be counted on to leave a lasting impression. It will lift your mood no matter how down you may be. This is an amazing album, but by far Xpander is the best track. Mad props to sasha for creating this song, it makes me want to cry, sing, jump around, and close my eyes all at once.

5.0 out of 5 stars If life is perfect, it's on this EP 19 Aug 2008
Format:Audio CD
Not just the signature track Xpander (which defines a generation) but the other 3 as well set a benchmark which all other house DJs and producers aim to get to. Which in all honesty is a futile effort as nothing has ever come close to this or ever will. The closest tune to being like this is Leftfield - Song Of Life (out about 1992) which is a stunning tune in itself and very influential on this EP and (progressive) house music as a whole.

If your just starting out as a clubber/dance music fan or are trying to diversify your music taste, then this is the first CD you should buy. It will set you off on a journey that only the man like Sasha can take you on! And you will never want to come back down to earth. Accept no dodgy substitutes and no baseball cap wearing radio DJs!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Tune That Represents A Genre 10 Dec 2007
Format:Audio CD
I bought this back in 1999. Radio 1's Judge Jules had mixed it into Hybrid's Finished Symphony on his show to create 10 minutes of pure bliss.

Its only when you hear the full length version that the true class of the track fully emerges. Its one of those goose bump tracks. Sweeping, epic, tranquil, and a build up that the legend that is Sasha is king of.

I came across the EP when sifting through my cd's the other day, and nearly shot myself for letting it sit for years with the mere mortals of my cd collection. It's now on the i-pod, and sitting proudly in the pile of my 'most played' once more.

The best trance tune ever, and a timeless classic.
